Living the High Life: APT Phu Quoc 2024 High Roller Events

A Closer Look at the High Roller Events at the Upcoming APT Phu Quoc, Vietnam 2024 Festival

HR ARTICLE (1).png

The upcoming APT Phu Quoc 2024 festival—running November 8-17 in partnership with VPT at the luxurious Corona Resort & Casino—promises players top flight tournament poker with a tropical beach setting and looks set to be a fantastic end of year event for Asia’s premier poker tour.

While the schedule is a little more relaxed than the record-breaking APT Taipei Poker Classic, and the upcoming APT Manila 2024, there are still a sizable 82 tournaments packed into the ten-day festival.

There are 18 high roller events—19 if you count the VND 50M (~USD 2,010) Zodiac Classic with its VND 2.5 billion (~USD 100K) guarantee—on offer for the APT’s contingent of dedicated high rollers to showcase their skills.

In addition to a more relaxed schedule, the buy-ins for some of the tour’s signature events have also been reduced slightly to reflect the chilled beach vibes; the biggest buy-in on the schedule comes in the tour’s signature APT Super High Roller event—running Saturday, November 10 to Sunday, November 9—which has a VND 120M (~USD 4,920) price point and boasts a VND 3 billion (~USD 120K) guarantee, meaning there is no better time to take your first shot at the big leagues.

Then there is the VND 120M Baby Superstar Challenge; while this does not come with a guarantee it does come with great structure for a single day event and is expected to attract the crème de la crème of the festival’s attendees.

Of course, no APT festival would be complete without the tour’s three award-winning signature lion trophies, and in addition to the gold lion APT Main Event trophy, and the pewter lion APT Super High Roller trophy, the coveted bronze lion APT High Roller trophy will also be on the line in the VND 80M (~USD 3,280) APT High Roller. This comes with a VND 2.5 billion (~USD 100K) guarantee and runs Saturday, November 16 to Sunday, November 17. Both signature High Roller events can be examined in more detail in the upcoming APT Phu Quoc Preview, which will be available from Friday, October 18.

All APT high roller tournaments start with a shot clock in effect, although the time this is set to can range from 30 seconds for standard blind levels, dropping down to 15 seconds for Turbo and Hyper Turbo tournaments.

Read on as we look under the hood of the APT Phu Quoc 2024 High Roller schedule and examine the tournaments on offer in more detail:

This event set a new tour field record at the recent APT Taipei Poker Classic, with two-time APT Main Event champion Lester Edoc defeating a field of 87 entries to claim the lion’s share of the TWD 4,134,240 (~USD 130,860) prize pool narrowly pipping India’s Dhaval Mudgal to the post to claim a TWD 1,085,240 (~USD 34,375) top prize. Event #32_ High Roller - Double Stack 2 (1).jpg The USA’s Peter Kiem made his maiden APT title win one to remember

A recent addition to the tour’s schedule; one of the two High Roller Double Stack tournaments at the APT Taipei Poker Classic set a tour record, drawing a field of 182 entries (133 unique) generating a prize pool of TWD 9,434,880 (~USD 298,855) – the largest ever for this tournament.

It was the USA’s Peter Kiem who claimed the accolades and the TWD 2,089,880 (~USD 66,200) top prize—a career-best score—making his maiden APT title win one to remember.

This two-day tournament comes with a 200,000-chip starting stack, 40-minute levels and a 30-second shot clock where players receive five 30-second time banks, reset on the Final Day and at the Final Table if more than 16 players return for the second day.

Event #79_ Baby Superstar Challenge 1 (1).JPG Niko Koop at APT Taipei Poker Classic

The Baby Superstar challenge shares the honor of boasting largest buy-in on the schedule with the APT Super High Roller and was another event to set a new tour record at the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024.

This saw Germany’s Niko Koop overcome a field of 92 entries (66 unique) to claim the biggest portion of the TWD 11,923,200 (~USD 377,675) prize pool; Koop overcame Thailand’s Thanat Sukchot to take a TWD 3,131,200 (~USD 99,180) top prize – the largest this event has ever awarded.

This is a single day event with 30-minute levels and gets underway on Friday, November 15. Players start with 100,000 in chips with a shot clock in effect from the start and entrants starting with five 30-second time banks, reset at the Final Table.
