PHU QUOC, VIETNAM, November 15, 2024 — The APT Phu Quoc 2024 VND 36M Main Event—run in partnership with VPT at the Corona Theater located within the luxurious Corona Resort & Casino—has reached the business end of the tournament and the tour’s largest Phu Quoc-based Main Event has seen the 795 entry field whittled down to the final nine players.

So far, 111 players have cashed for a share of the VND 25 billion (~USD 1 million) prize pool, with the remaining VND 14,669,500,000 (~USD 577,540) to be distributed between the final nine players – with the eventual champion taking home a chunky VND 4,710,000,000 (~USD 185,430) top prize in addition to the award-winning 24K Gold Lion APT Main Event Trophy and all the accolades that accompany it.

Day 3 saw 50 players return to the felt, all guaranteed a VND 87,500,000 (~USD 3,445) payday, but all had but one goal in mind – earning a place at the final table.

It took just over nine 60-minute levels to thin the field, with the departure of South Korea’s Dongyeol Choi at the hands of the Philippines’ David Erquiaga concluding the action with 44 minutes remaining on level 29.

Choi collected VND 288,750,000 (~USD 11,370) for his tenth place finish, and that final pot of the day pushed Erquiaga out into the chip lead, with the Filipino tournament professional bagging up a sizeable 5,470,000 in chips – valued at 109 big blinds when play resumes.

Erquiaga, who already boasts 31 live tournament titles that include five APT titles and 25 APT final tables has come close to APT Main Event success previously, finishing runner-up in the APT Philippines 2022 Main Event and will be looking to add the one thing missing from his poker resume – an APT Main Event title.

First however, he must contend with South Korea’s Junseok Oh and China’s Jinlong Hu, who will return second and third in the counts respectively with the latter boasting 12 live tournament titles including three APT titles for close to USD 600,000 in live tournament winnings. Vietnamese film actor Do Tien Vu can also not be counted out, and will be returning fourth on the leaderboard.

Deepankur Gupta is another player to watch, with the Indian player boasting close to USD 1 million in combined online and live tournament scores and Gupta will be looking to make his APT final table debut a memorable one.
