Philippines’ Lester Edoc Wins 18th APT Title in Event #3: Single Day High Roller - Freezeout

The first of the 23 scheduled high rollers, the TWD 55,000 (~USD 1,725) Event #3: Single Day High Roller - Freezeout got underway at the CML (Chinese Mahjong League) at 11am local time drawing 87 entries and generating a TWD 4,134,240 (~USD 130,860) prize pool.

It was the Philippines’ Lester Edoc who brought home the bacon, narrowly pipping India’s Dhaval Mudgal to the post to claim an impressive 18th APT title and the TWD 1,085,240 (~USD 34,375) top prize.

What makes the former two-time Main Event champion’s win all the more impressive is the fact it moves Edoc up to joint fourth in APT title wins, an honour he shares with Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, with the UK’s Sam Razavi holding the record for most APT live title wins with an impressive 29 APT victories.

Mudgal will not be too disappointed with his runner-up finish however, with the APT circuit regular reduced down to his last two big blinds on the money bubble before staging an epic comeback to bring himself back into contention for a fourth APT title.

However, Edoc put paid to that dream and Mudgal remains on three APT title wins, banking TWD 761,000 (~USD 24,105) for his runner-up finish. Hong Kong’s Kevin Tse rounded out the last of the three podium positions, earning a TWD 502,000 (~USD 15,900) payday for his bronze finish.

Other notables to make the money included Hong Kong’s Edward Yam (5th for TWD 318,000), Iceland’s Adalsteinn Karlsson (9th for TWD 116,000), and the USA’s Joseph Cheong (13th for TWD 95,000) with a total of 13 players making the money and the final table paying out as follows:

Taiwan’s Ting Yu Chen Crushes Meet Up Game

APTTPCM_MUG-27.jpg Natural8 Ambassador Eric “Six Poker” Tsai plays the M.U.G

While the Meet Up Game does not award a trophy, that did not stop 56 hopefuls anteing up the TWD 6,600 (~USD 210) entry fee and battling it out against three of Taiwan’s hottest players in an exclusive three-hour time tournament.

Of course, the aim of the game was not about scoring some silverware but about butting heads with the players in question; Natural8 Ambassador Eric “Six Poker” Tsai, Rising Star I-Chun “Charlie” Chiu aka I.C Charlie, and popular poker YouTuber and King of Poker Survival GShan.

Despite drawing the crowds, all three guests of honour booked a loss but gave the field lots of laughs in the process, with the action proving entertaining for both the watching rail, and all players involved in the action.

It was local Ting Yu Chen who was laughing all the way to the bank however, booking the biggest win and bragging rights, leaving with a TWD 22,400 (~USD 710) score – not bad for a TWD 6,600 investment!
