APT Phu Quoc 2023: Main Event Up To 482 Entries After Final Two Starting Flights With Registration Still Open, China's Xiaochun Shi Wins Record-Breaking Single Day High Roller – 8 Max For ₫1.04BN (~$43.7K)

APT PHU QUOC SCHEDULE | OFFICIAL RESULTS | IMAGES | WINNERS ** PHU QUOC, VIETNAM, March 29, 2023** – It was another action-packed day at the APT Phu Quoc as the final two starting flights of the ₫30,000,000+3,000,000 Main Event played out at the Sapphire Conference Room at the luxurious Corona Resort & Casino.

As if that wasn't enough to get the blood pumping, the ₫50,000,000+5,000,000 Event #24 Single Day High Roller – 8 Max certainly was, with the tournament drawing a record-breaking field. You can read all about it below.

Of course, it was the Main Event that garnered the most attention. The field currently stands at 484 entries with registration remaining open until APT VP of Live Poker Operations Lloyd Fontillas utters "Shuffle up and deal," to start Day 2.

Flight C kicked off the action at 12pm local time (GMT+7) drawing 109 entries (91 unique), who competed over ten 30-minute levels, with the action done and dusted by around 5:30pm.

Vietnam's Phuong Ngoc Nguyen topped the Flight C chip counts, winning some sizable pots towards the end of the day to elevate his stack to the top of the Flight's leaderboard.

Nguyen concluded play with a stack of 270,100 and was the only Flight C player to crack the 200K chip mark, putting him fourth in the overall pecking order coming into Day 2.

It was another Vietnamese player who finished with the second-largest Flight C stack, with The Anh Nguyen bagging up 199,300 in chips.

The Netherland's Ammar Nacim Ben rounded out the top three Flight C stacks, bagging 169,600.

Other notables to make it through included Russia's Oleg Titov (121,400), and Konstantin Generalov (95,800), Natural8 Ambassador Phachara Wongwichit (80,700), and Event #18 Turbo champion Vu Van Lich (75,000).

In total, 55 players successfully circumnavigated the tournament minefeild to lock up a Day 2 seat, with a full list of Flight C entries and survivors below.

Duh Anh Nguyen 2.jpg Vietnam's Duy Anh Nguyen topped the Main Event Flight D chip counts

The fourth and final starting Flight D got underway at 5pm local time (GMT+7) and drew a further 60 entries (48 unique).

It was another Vietnamese player who topped the counts, with Duy Anh Nguyen concluding play with a stack of 252,000 – putting him sixth in the overall counts coming into Day 2.

South Korea's Sungkyu Jeon (233,300), and Australia's Joshua Mccully (231,400) rounded out the top three Flight D stacks, with a further 30 players fighting their way through to Day 2.

Notables who made the cut included Vietna's Dinh Tien Thanh (125,300), Japan's Motoyoshi Okamura (110,400), and the Czech Republic's Roman Hrabec (88,400).

There are no double qualifiers, and one player has pre-registered for Day 2 already, meaning 208 players will return when play recommences at 12pm local time on Thursday, March 30.

The plan is to play down to the money or 48 players, whichever takes longer.

China's Xiaochun Shi Wins Record-Breaking Single Day High Roller – 8 Max For ₫1.04BN (~$43.7K)

The records continue to tumble at the APT Phu Quoc 2023 with the ₫50,000,000+5,000,000 Event #24 Single Day High Roller – 8 Max drawing the largest single-day high roller field in APT history.

An impressive 105-strong field comprised of 79 unique players assembled to do battle at the baize, all gunning for their share of the ₫4,074,000,000 (~$175,180) prize pool.

It was China's Xiaochun Shi who claimed the tasty ₫1,040,920,000 (~$43,720) top prize, defeating Vietnam's Quang Huy Nguyen heads-up to make his maiden APT title win a memorable one.

Nguyen banked ₫717,020,000 ($30,800) for his runner-up finish, with China's Yake Wu rounding out the winner's triumvirate and collecting ₫470,550,000 ($19,760) for third place.

It took twenty-five 30-minute levels to whittle the record field down to the official eight-handed final table, with Australia's John "Bert" Perry coming in with the chip lead.

Unfortunately the Aussie was unable to convert this into the win, and departed in fifth place for a ₫307,590,000 (~$12,900) payday.

Vietnam's Tran Duc Dong came agonisingly close to the official final table, but departed in ninth place for a ₫105,920,000 (~$4,550) payday.

Notables in contention who came up short of the money included India's Aditya Agarwal, and Dhaval Mudgal, China's Dong Chen, the Philippines' Lester Edoc, and Singapore's Benjamin Sai.

Philippines' Ferlyn Cabaling Wins Record Eighth APT Women's Event Title For ₫62.8M (~$2.7K)

The Philippines Ferlyn Cabaling has cemented her position in APT folklore, winning the most Women's Event titles in the 15-year history of the tour after claiming her eighth APT Women's Event title in the ₫5,000,000+500,000 Event #25 Women's Event.

A total of 35 (25 unique) female players fought it out at the felt for a share of the ₫169,750,000 (~$7,300) prize pool, but none could compete with Cabaling.

The Filipino defeated Boram Kim to claim the ₫62,800,000 (~$2,700) top prize, with the South Korean collecting ₫43,290,000 (~$1,800) for her runner-up finish.

Japan's Yukina Oza rounded out the podium, receiving ₫27,580,000 (~$1,150) for her third-place finish.

Playing out in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the ₫15,000,000+1,500,000 Event #23 Turbo – 8 Max saw 36 players (28 unique) ante up and battle it out at the baize, all looking to claim a share of the ₫523,800,000 (~$22,000) prize pool.

It was Mongolia's Gantail Gombodorj who took it down, defeating China's Yunsheng Sun heads-up to claim the ₫193,800,000 (~$8,140) top prize and his first APT title.

Sun received ₫133,570,000 ($5,600) for his runner-up finish, with another Mongolian – Bat-Erdene Erdenebayar – rounding out the podium and taking ₫85,120,000 ($3,575) for third-place.
