APT Phu Quoc 2024 Gets Underway with Six-Flight National Cup

PHU QUOC, VIETNAM, November 8, 2024 — The Asian Poker Tour has returned to sunny Phu Quoc after an 18-month hiatus, marking its first New Era visit and the tour’s third overall to this stunning Vietnamese destination with its famous beaches following the conclusion of APT Manila 2024. The 10-day APT Phu Quoc 2024 will run from Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 17, in collaboration with VPT at the Corona Theater located within the luxurious Corona Resort & Casino.

This highly anticipated festival features over VND 44 billion (~USD 1.7 million) in guarantees, headlined by the VND 36M (~USD 1,450) APT Main Event, which runs from November 11 to 16 and boasts an impressive VND 25 billion (~USD 1 million) guarantee, almost double the VND 14.7 billion (USD 620K) prize pool from 2023. Last year’s Main Event saw the UK’s Jacque Ramsden outlast a field of 507 entrants to claim a VND 2.3 billion (USD 99K) top prize.

The festival kicked off with the three-day, six-flight VND 9M (~USD 360) Vietnam National Cup, running from November 8 to 10, and featuring a VND 5 billion (~USD 201K) guarantee. Read more about the first three flights in detail below.

Adding to the excitement, the action-packed opening weekend will also host the VND 3 billion (~USD 120K) guaranteed APT Super High Roller on November 9, with the first of the festival’s prestigious APT Lion Trophies up for grabs. The weekend culminates with the VND 1.5 billion guaranteed Sunday Super Stack on November 10.

Players can look forward to daily high-roller tournaments throughout the series, including the VND 120M (~USD 4,825) Baby Superstar Challenge on November 15 and the VND 80M (~USD 3,220) APT High Roller from November 16 to 17, which carries a VND 2.5 billion (~USD 100K) guarantee.

Flight B’s Udomkanjananan Ahead of the Pack in Vietnam National Cup After Three Flights Played

The three-day six-flight Event #1: Vietnam National Cup headlined the first day of APT Phu Quoc 2024, with the opening event garnering 186 entries across the first three flights today. The top 14% of each flight all make it in-the-money and will play out the Final Day on Sunday, November 10.

Flight A got the series started at 11.00am local time, bringing in 79 entries (62 unique) playing it out over 18 30-minute levels with local Nhut Do Van coming out ahead of the flight, bagging a monstrous 433,000 chip stack. The second largest stack belongs to Russian Ilia Timofeev, who holds 336,000 chips, followed by Finland’s Jaakko Pasi with 262,000 chips. A total of 12 players made it to the Final Day from Flight A.

Meanwhile, Flight B kicked off in the early evening at 5.30pm local time, with a total of 92 entrants (76 unique). The flight also went through 18 30-minute levels, eventually concluding with Thailand’s Wipat Udomkanjananan emerging as chip leader of the Vietnam National Cup after three flights played. Udomkanjananan bagged a massive 439,000 chip stack, with China’s Xiaotong Yu following closely behind with 396,000 chips. The top three of Flight B was rounded off by local Nguyen Anh Duc with 320,000 chips. Flight B ended with a total of 13 runners making it to the Final Day.

Flight C started play late in the evening at 9.00pm. The flight is played in a turbo format, with 15-minute levels. The flight saw 16 levels played before three surviving runners were found. Finishing as overall chip leader of Flight C was Manuel Blaschke from Austria, who bagged 342,500 chips. Following him into the final day will be Thailand’s Kiwanont Sukhum (80,000) and China’s Ruihan Cheng (27,500), who miraculously makes the Final Day despite having less than starting chip stack (30,000).
