DA NANG, VIETNAM, July 21, 2023 – Sun, sea, sand, and some scintillating poker are on the horizon for the next ten days as the largest tournament schedule in APT history – the APT Summer Series Da Nang, Vietnam 2023 – gets underway at the Ariyana Convention Centre, located at the luxurious five-star beachfront Furama Resort Da Nang.
This marks the second time that Da Nang has played host to Asia's most prestigious poker tour, following the APT's debut here back during the APT Da Nang Vietnam VSOP 2022.
It was South Korea's Doo Sik Nam the man to claim the honor of becoming the inaugural APT Da Nang Main Event champion, defeating a 411-strong field to claim the lion's share of the VND 11.96 billion (~USD $502,000) prize pool, taking home the VND 2.59 billion (~USD $109,000) top prize in addition to the trophy and title.
With the APT Kickoff kickstarting the Series action and drawing 317 entries (223 unique) – which you can read about in more detail below – the APT Summer Series Da Nang, Vietnam 2023 looks destined to draw some sizable fields.
Running July 21-30, the 10-day, 57-trophy-event poker festival boasts VND 26 billion (~$1,100,000) in guaranteed prize money.
The Series is showcasing more poker variants than ever before with an eclectic spread of games making their Asian debut: 5 Card PL Omaha - Hi-Lo (Big O), Limit H-E-R-O-S, NLH - Deuces Wild, Limit - Triple Stud (Razz, Stud Hi, Stud Hi-Lo), NLH - Double Board Single Winner, and NL - 2-7 - Single Draw are just some of the new variants and mixed games on offer.

Kickoff Kickstarts Series Action; Vietnam's Tran Huy Hoang Hunting Third APT Title After Topping Counts
The Series action kicked off with the VND 10,000,000 APT Kickoff, with Flight A getting underway at 12pm local time and drawing 185 entries, with the opening flight playing out over nineteen 30-minuite levels,
A further 132 players joined the action for Flight B, which kicked off at 4pm with slightly shorter 20-minute levels.
This brought the total field up to 317 entries (223 unique), generating a VND 2,767,410,000 (~USD $117,250) prize pool.
With the top 14 percent of the field from each respective starting flight making Day 2 and the money, a total of 26 players made the cut from Flight A, with a further 19 making it through from Flight B.
These 45 combined survivors will return for the second and final day all guaranteed a payout of at least VND 15,960,000 (~USD $675), but it is the VND 545,540,000 (~USD $23,140) top prize that all will be aiming for.

It is Vietnam's Tran Huy Hoang the man leading the charge, topping the Flight A chip counts with a stack of 570,000.
Hoang – who is on the hunt for his third APT title – will be returning in pole position for Day 2, with Russia's Artem Utevskii (465,000), and the USA's Robert Kiss (447,000) rounding out the top three Flight A stacks.
Utevskii and Kiss will return second and third respectively in the overall counts, with the top ten Flight A stacks as follows:

Vietnam's Nguyen Trung Quan bagged biggest on Flight B of the APT Kickoff
The local players also enjoyed the rub of the green on Flight B, with Vietnam's Nguyen Trung Quan bagging the largest stack after the nineteen 20-minute levels concluded.
Quan bagged up 402,000 in total, putting him fifth in the overall counts.
Russia's Anatolii Gorbushin (392,000), and China's Yongfu Dong (304,000) rounded out the top three Flight B stacks, putting them sixth and seventh respectively coming into Day 2.

The 45 survivors will unite for the first time for the second and final day, which plays out at 12pm local time on Saturday, July 22, with the tournament playing down to a champion.

Ireland's Gavin Flynn claimed his fourth APT title in Event #5 Single Day High Roller Freezeout 8 Max
The first of the Series' ten scheduled high roller events, the VND 50,000,000 Event #2 Single Day High Roller - Freezeout - 8 Max got underway at 4pm local time.
This drew a 25-strong field, generating a VND 1,091,250,000 (~USD $46,275) prize pool.
While not the largest line-up, it was certainly a tough one, with several former APT High Roller champions in the running including APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam Superstar Challenge champion Alan Pham, Australia's Josh Mccully, Taiwan's Yu-Chung Chang, and Vietnam's Nguyen Trung Quan, and Ngoc Pham.
Add in India's Ashish Munot, the Netherland's Martijn Gerrits, and New Zealand's Slade Fisher – all of whom boast six and seven-figure live tournament winnings on their poker résumés – and you have a recipe for some spicy tournament action, especially with only the top four places paying out.
It took twenty-two 20-minute levels to crown a champion, with Ireland's Gavin Flynn the man to take gold and the VND 458,320,000 (~USD $19,425) top prize.
Flynn defeated China's Ge Yingrui heads-up to claim his fourth APT title, and his second High Roller title, in addition to the coveted APT golden lion silhouette trophy.
Yingrui received VND 305,550,000 (~USD $12,950) for his runner-up finish, with compatriot Yuhan Liu taking bronze and a payout of VND 196,430,000 (~USD $8,320) for third.
Vietnam's Nguyen Anh Minh was the only other player to cash, claiming VND 130,950,000 (~USD $5,550) for fourth place.

Portugal's Patrick Pun claimed the inaugural 5 Card PL Omaha Hi-Lo (Big O) title
An exciting new addition to the APT schedule, the VND 3,000,000 Event #3 5 Card PL Omaha - Hi-Lo (Big O) tournament made its Asian debut, drawing a 37-strong field (27 unique) and generating a VND 96,903,000 (~USD $4,100) prize pool.
After twenty 20-minute levels, it was Portugal's Patrick Pun who claimed the honor of becoming the inaugural Big O champion after the final three players opted for an ICM chip chop.
Pun received VND 28,353,700 (~USD $1,200) for first place – in addition to claiming his maiden APT title.
The UK's Craig Cooper locked up VND 25,496,800 (~USD $1,080) for second place, with the USA's Leon Cillers rounding out the winner's podium, receiving VND 22,452,500 (~USD $950) for third place.
