APT SUMMER SERIES DA NANG 2023 SCHEDULE | OFFICIAL RESULTS | IMAGES | WINNERS | PLAYER LISTS
DA NANG, VIETNAM, July 23, 2023 – The first of the APT flagship lion trophies has been awarded in the VND 120,000,000 APT Super High Roller as the APT Summer Series Da Nang, Vietnam 2023 enters its third day, with Australia's Julian Warhurst showcasing his lion taming skills.
Playing out at the Ariyana Convention Centre – located at the luxurious five-star beachfront Furama Resort Da Nang – just 2 players out of the 22 entries remained in contention for the trophy, title, and the lion's share of the VND 2,390,080,000 (~USD $101,020) prize pool.
Both Warhurst and Thai opponent Satanan Jungrungreangkit were already guaranteed a payday of at least VND 669,220,000 (~USD $28,280), but it was the coveted pewter lion and the VND 1,003,840,000 (~USD $42,430) top prize the duo had their sights set on.
Warhurst came into the heads-up match with a slight two big blind chip disadvantage but put the pedal to the metal to seize the lead as soon as the tournament restarted, winning successive back-to-back pots without showdown with some aggressive river betting.
The confrontation was done and dusted in less than 30 minutes, with Warhurst effectively laying one hand on the trophy after picking off a huge bluff from Jungrungreangkit that left the Thai sitting on a stack of just 2.5 big blinds.
It was all over the very next hand, with Jungrungreangkit moving all in for the last of his chips with ten-deuce and Warhurst making the call with jack-seven. Both players missed the flop and turn before the Aussie paired his seven on the river to clinch his maiden APT title.
