DA NANG, VIETNAM, July 27, 2023 – It's official, the APT Summer Series Da Nang, Vietnam 2023 Main Event is a record breaker, setting a new Vietnam prize pool record for the tour.

Playing out at the Ariyana Convention Centre – located at the luxurious five-star beachfront Furama Resort Da Nang, Day 2 of the APT Main Event saw a further 26 players enter the tournament arena to join the 270 respective survivors from the four opening flights, bringing the number of players remaining in action up to 296.

The tournament attracted 675 entries in total (381 unique), smashing the VND 12 billion (~USD $500,000) guarantee and ballooning the prize pool to VND 20,624,625,000 (~USD $866,360).

A total of 95 players will earn themselves a slice of the record prize pool, with a min-cash coming in at VND 60,840,000 (~USD $2,560).

However, it is the coveted golden lion APT trophy and the sizable VND 3,935,285,000 (~USD $165,280) top prize that will be the focus of all remaining players in the field.

Action restarted on level 11, with blinds recommencing at 800/1,600 with a 1,600 big blind ante. The action played out over ten 60-minute levels, with play concluding on level 20 as the players fought their way through to the 95 paying positions and beyond.

The money bubble was a drawn-out affair, rearing its ugly head midway through level 17 with cagey hand-for-hand play lasting close to an hour and 15 minutes and concluding near the close of level 18.

It was Australia's Armon Van Wijk the man to depart in pokers' most unenviable position, moving all in from under-the-gun for his last 2,000 in chips with pocket queens and finding five customers.

A sizable crowd gathered on the rail to watch the hand play out, and while Van Wijk had the best of it, the runout was not a kind one, with four diamonds on the board by the time the dealer peeled the final card off the deck.

Five of the six players in the hand did not hold a diamond, but unfortunately for Van Wijk, Hong Kong's Charles Wong was the sixth man and held the five of diamonds to bring the Australian's tournament to an end and guarantee all 95 surviving players a cash reward.

The Aussie did receive a consolation prize, however, with APT President Neil Johnson presenting him with a random prize draw, with Van Wijk pulling a VND 11,000,000 ticket to the Mini Main Event.

It feels a bit like Groundhog Day as for the second APT Summer Series in a row, it is Japan's Daiki Shingae who is leading the final 48 players.

Shingae bagged up a sizable 1,725,000 in chips after the ten 60-minute levels of Day 2 played out, and sits comfortably atop the counts with over 400,000 more (33 big blinds) than next his closest rival.

That rival in question is Thailand's Chumphon Naisanthat, who bagged up a respectable 1,322,000, with Vietnam's Nguyen Dang Lam Hong rounding out the top three stacks after she finished the day on 1,284,000, with the top ten stacks as follows:
