APT SUMMER SERIES HANOI 2023 SCHEDULE | OFFICIAL RESULTS | IMAGES | WINNERS

HANOI, VIETNAM, June 1, 2023 – The numbers are in for the VND 35,000,000 APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 Main Event, with the tournament trouncing the VND 12-billion guarantee (~USD $500,000).

The 236 respective survivors from the four opening flights were joined by a further 40 Day 2 entries – including France's top tournament player Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier – bringing the total field up to 581 (345 unique) and generating a princely prize pool of VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340).

A total of 87 players will make the money, with a min-cash good for VND 55,000,000 (~USD $2,350), but it is the VND 3,401,355,000 (~USD $145,500) top prize and the coveted golden lion APT trophy all players have their sights set on.

The action played out across both floors of the Grand Loyal Poker Club located at the luxurious Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel, occupying 34 of the 43 tournament tables in operation.

Action restarted on level 11, with blinds recommencing at 800/1,600 with a 1,600 big blind ante. The action played out over ten 60-minute levels, with play concluding on level 20 as the players fought their way through to the 87 paying positions and beyond.

The money bubble was reached and breached midway through level 17, with South Korea's Junyeob Song running ace-queen into the ace-king of New Zealand's Daniel Francis to guarantee all 87 surviving players a cash reward.

It is Daiki Shingae who leads the final 48 Main Event survivors; the Japanese player entered at the start of Day 2 and managed to spin his 40,000 starting stack up to the giddy heights of 1,941,000.

Van Sang Nguyen was another Day 2 entry who also enjoyed the rub of the green. The Vietnamese player took an early lead after scoring a double knockout with pocket kings, eliminating Flight A chip leader Gab Yong Kim and Sweden's Daniel Brugman, who held pocket queens, and nines respectively. Nguyen concluded play with a stack of 1,429,000.

Vietnam's Victor Em rounds out the top three with a stack of 1,138,000, with compatriot Xoa Nguyen Thi (1,100,000) the only other player to crack the seven-figure chip stack mark, with the top ten stacks coming into Day 3 as follows:

Other notables left in contention include bracelet winner Alex Lindop (413,000), the USA's Peter Kiem (368,000), India's Kunal Patni (265,000), Vietnam's Ngo Van Dat (240,000), and compatriot Ha Van Thien, the latter of whom battled back from 2,000 in chips to knock out the USA's Robert Kiss (49th for VND 69,200,000) to conclude play for the day.

Other notables to cash but come up short of Day 3 included bubble burster Francis (55th for VND 69,200,000), Japan's Satoshi Kuriga (62nd for VND 62,100,000), Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier (69th for VND 62,100,000), Malaysia's Shung Sua (70th for VND 62,100,000), and the UK's Grant Gardner (83rd for VND 55,000,000).

Day 3 gets underway at 12pm local time on Friday, June 2 with the tournament playing down to the nine-handed final table.

Day 4 will play out at 12:15pm on Saturday, June 3 with the tournament crowning a champion.

China's Yaoyu He Claims Gold in Event #31 Single Day High Roller - 8 Max for VND 961M (~USD $41K)

The VND 60,000,000 Event #31 Single Day High Roller - 8 Max played out concurrently with the Main Event and drew a 63-strong field (43 unique).

It took twenty-five 30-minute levels for the tournament to play down to a champion.

It was China's Yaoyu He the man to claim the lion's share of the VND 3,299,940,000 (~USD $141,880) prize pool, defeating compatriot Zikang Wang heads-up to take the VND 961,920,000 (~USD $41,320) top prize, the coveted golden lion silhouette trophy, and his maiden APT title.

Wang – who was also on the hunt for his first title – had to reconcile with the VND 692,990,000 (~USD $29,800) on offer for second.

South Korea's Hyun Sup Kim – making his second final table appearance of the Series – rounded out the winner's podium, taking VND 450,440,000 (~USD $19,375) for his third-place finish.

Outside of the Main Event, it was Day 1 of the VND 20,000,000 Event #32 Zodiac Classic - Sponsored by Natural8 that was the biggest draw of the day.

This saw a field of 152 entries (117 unique) in action, fighting it out at the felt over fourteen 30-minute levels in an attempt to make Day 2 and earn their slice of the VND 2,653,920,000 (~USD $114,100) prize pool.

A total of 47 players survived the tournament maelstrom to find a chip bag and return for the second and final day.

However, with only the top 20 places paying out, over half of them will be leaving empty-handed.

The man returning in the best of positions to claim the trophy, title and VND 636,970,000 (~USD $27,400) top prize is Taiwan's Su Lung Yeh, who concluded play with the chip lead and a stack of 411,000 – valued at 102 big blinds.

Vietnam's Lam Kim Long sits second in the counts with a stack of 321,500, with Japan's Sho Saika (255,500) rounding out the top three, with the top ten stacks as follows:

South Korea's Sungkyu Jeon Takes Second Series Title in Event #29 Turbo - 8 Max

Playing out in the early hours of Thursday morning, the VND 15,000,000 Event #29 Turbo - 8 Max attracted the largest field out of the turbo side events so far this Series, drawing 78 entries (65 unique) and generating a VND 1,021,410,000 (~USD $43,735) prize pool.

It took twenty-one fast-paced 15-minute levels to find a champion.

It was South Korea's Sungkyu Jeon the man to take it down, defeating China's Yun Zhang heads-up to claim the VND 280,870,000 (~USD $12,030) top prize and snag his second title of the Series after his victory in Event #17 NL - Hold'em.

Zhang – who was gunning for his maiden APT title – collected VND 199,690,000 (~USD $8,550) for his runner-up finish.

China's Tian Hao Zheng rounded out the winner's podium, receiving VND 130,740,000 (~USD $5,600) for third.

A total of 11 players made the money, with the tournament paying out as follows:

Lau saw off challenges from a 35-strong field comprised of 26 unique players to take the lion's share of the VND 152,775,000 (~USD $6,550) prize pool after a brief heads-up battle against Kazakhstan's Azamat Dyussembekov.

The Hong Kong player claimed a top prize of VND 56,525,000 (~USD $2,420) for his victroy, with Dyussembekov collecting VND 38,960,000 (~USD $1,670) for his runner-up finish.

Reigning APT Incheon Main Event champion Farhad Aghayev claimed his first cash of the Series, banking VND 24,830,000 (~USD $1,060) for third.
