MANILA, PHILIPPINES, November 3, 2024 — The numbers are in for the largest guaranteed tournament in Philippines poker history, with the APT Manila 2024 Main Event setting a new tour record for largest Philippines field, drawing an impressive 1,081 entries (639 unique).
Every APT festival in 2024 has generated a four-figure Main Event field, with the tour setting records at every stop this year and APT Manila 2024 being no exception.
Playing out in the Grand Ballroom of the City of Dreams Manila luxury resort in partnership with Soul Poker, the APT’s first visit to Manila in two years for the first Philippines-based New Era festival boasts over double the number of entries of the 2022 APT Philippines Main Event (380 entries), with the APT Manila Main Event PHP 100 million (~USD 1.7 million) prize pool coming in at over four times the size of the previous PHP 23,280,000 (~USD 405,823) offering.
Just 369 players survived the carnage of the opening four flights and were joined by a further 47 Day 2 entries with the Philippines’ Edilberto Gopez returning with the start-of-day chip lead.
With the payouts announced, players fastened their seatbelts and buckled up for the ride; with 159 positions paying out and the eventual winner walking away with a PHP 18,060,000 (~USD 307,020) top prize competition for a place in the hallowed money spots was a cut-throat affair.

The money bubble was reached and breached 20-minutes into the seventh 60-minute level played with Norway’s Mikal Blomlie departing in poker’s most unenviable position to conclude the Day 2 action.
Blomlie exited at the hands of APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 Main Event finalist Jae Wook Shin after the two got all the chips in pre-flop, Blomlie’s pocket sevens racing against Shin’s suited ace-ten with a ten in the window ending the Norwegian’s Main Event dream, granting Shin a top ten stack for Day 3, and guaranteeing the 159 remaining players a PHP 167,000 (~USD 2,840) payout.

Zhen Chen will be returning with the chip lead when play resumes, with 42-minutes remaining on level 17 and blinds recommencing at 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 big blind ante. The Chinese player was the only player to crack a million, and will be returning in pole position with a stack of 1,094,000 with which to make a play for his maiden major title.
New Zealand’s Vincent Huang also enjoyed a fantastic day at the felt, railing the unfortunate Morita Takuya during hand-for-hand play to bag up the second biggest Day 2 stack of 974,000.
The Philippines' Lester Edoc rounded out the top three Day 2 stacks, concluding play with 777,000 in chips and start-of-day chip leader Edilberto Gopez also bagged a top ten stack:
