Taiwan's Jia-Ming Zhang Scores Series Hat-Trick With Event #18 Super Hold'em Hyper Turbo Victory

Event #18 Super Hold'em champion Jia-Ming Zhang2.jpg Taiwan's Jia-Ming Zhang joins an exclusive club of three-time APT Series title champions

Taiwan's Jia-Ming Zhang scored a hat-trick with victory in the VND 4,000,000 Event #18 Super Hold'em (3 Hole Cards, use 0,1,2,3 cards) - Hyper Turbo, which played out in the early hours of Monday morning.

Zhang defeated a 27-strong (21 unique) field to claim the lion's share of the VND 94,284,000 (~USD $3,980) prize pool.

The Taiwanese player defeated South Korea's Jung Woong Park heads-up to claim the VND 39,604,000 (~USD $1,670) top prize and lock up his third Series title in as many days – a feat no other player has accomplished in the APT's 15-year history!

To be clear, there have been 13 triple Series title wins in total since 2008 (including this one) with South Korea's Soojo Kim and the Philippines' Lester Edoc achieving this feat twice each, meaning there have been 11 triple APT Series title winners in total.

The UK's Sam Razavi hold's the current record for most title wins in a Series, claiming four APT titles during the APT Cebu 2015.

However, no player has ever done it with consecutive back-to-back-to-back wins, which is what makes Zhang's achievement all the more impressive!

Zhang – the first player to achieve the triple in the APT New Era – now joins an exclusive winners' club that features Razavi, Kim, Edoc, Norway’s Kai Paulsen, Noumea’s Olivia Andre, and Andre Moracchini, Singapore’s Andy Li, the Philippines' Mike Takayama, and Vamerdino Magsakay, and Mongolia’s Battulga Janag.

With a further six days of poker action remaining, the Taiwanese player still has plenty of chances to rival Razavi's record.

Zhang came agonizingly close to making it four for four, cashing in third place in Monday's Event #22 Super Hold'em - Double Chance – which you can read about further down.

Park, who was on the hunt for his maiden APT title, had to settle for the VND 26,400,000 (~USD $1,120) on offer for second place.

Japan's Daigo Yoshida claimed bronze and a payout of VND 16,970,000 (~USD $720) for third.
