APT Taipei Poker Classic Sets Tour Triple Draw Record

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, September 27, 2024 – The lineup of mixed games at the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 got off to a roaring start with 71 entries registering for Event #2: PL Omaha High.

Japan’s Abe Yusuke emerged victorious and claimed the first trophy of the series—and his maiden APT title—pocketing TWD 176,624 (~USD5,597) for his efforts.

Fellow countryman Takanori Yamagiwa was Yusuke’s heads-up opponent, claiming TWD127,000 (~USD 4,024) for his runner-up finish.

Notables in the field included Henry Kilbane, former Triton commentor, and Tony Khoang from the Netherlands. Khoang was present at the final table, finishing fourth for a prize of TWD 62,000 (~USD 1,964). Asia circuit regular and local Fu Bang Huang also made a final table showing, finishing ninth for a min-cash of TWD 18,000 (~USD 570), with the tournament paid out as follows:

Sparrow Swoops to Victory in Record-Breaking Event #5: Limit Triple Draw 2-7

A new APT triple draw record was set in Event #5: Limit Triple Draw 2-7 with 69 entrants taking part in the event. The turnout beats the previous record set during APT Incheon 2023, which saw Japan’s Keita Yamashiro defeat a field of 52 entries in Event #49: NL 2-7 Single Draw - Turbo.

Park Yu Cheung—better known by his nickname “Sparrow”—outlasted a final table featuring seven Japanese players, with the country seeing a surge of interest in the format in recent times.

This win marks Cheung’s 58th live tournament title victory, and his tenth APT title with the Hong Kong native taking home TWD 118,038 (~USD 3,740) for his efforts after defeating Japan’s Kohei Ike heads-up. Ike made TWD 86,000 (~USD 2,725) for his silver podium finish, with compatriot Toyoki Shinozaki taking bronze and TWD 56,000 (~USD 1,774) for third.

A total of nine players made the money with the tournament paying out as follows:

Mark Furniss Continues APT Hot Streak with Fourth APT Title in Event #7 Big O

Australia’s Mark Furniss continues his hot streak by taking his fourth title in Event #7: Turbo - PL Omaha Hi-Lo - 5 Card (Big O), defeating a 70-strong field.

Furniss’ victory secured himself a first place purse of TWD 119,952 (~USD 3,801). Local Yu Sheng Lin was Furniss’s heads-up opponent and took home TWD 87,000 (~USD 2,757).

Hong Kong’s Pao Jung Huang rounded out the podium, earning TWD 57,000 (~USD 1,800) for his third-place finish.

Taiwan’s Ming Chang Hsiao, who previously took home a trophy in the TWD 10,000 Event #32 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Mix - 4/5/6 Card 7 Max at APT Taipei earlier this year, also made a final table appearance, with nine players making the money and the tournament paying out as follows:

France’s Adrien Favre Takes Down Event #8: Hyper Turbo

The late hours did not deter France’s Adrien Favre from scoring one for the French contingent in Event #8: Hyper Turbo. Favre outlasted a field of 29 entries to take home TWD 138,840 (~USD 4,398), the trophy and his maiden APT title.

Former APT and Triton commentator Henry Kilbane from the United Kingdom was heads up for his first live title, but unfortunately fell short and was forced to settle for second and TWD 96,000 (~USD 3,041).

Former APT Main Event champion Dicky Tsang of Hong Kong collected TWD 61,000 (~USD 1,930) for third place, with five players making the money and the tournament paying out as follows:
