Final Table of Taiwan's Largest & Richest Poker Tournament Set; Singapore's Dhanesh Chainani Leads APT Main Event

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, October 4, 2024 – The final table of the largest and richest poker tournament ever to play out in Taiwan is set with just nine players out of the initial 1,991 entries remaining in contention for a share of the TWD 86,011,200 (~USD 2,724,460) prize pool – the richest ever generated in the region.

Playing out at the tournament tables of the Chinese Texas Hold'em Poker Club (CTP) Asia Poker Arena, Day 4 of the APT Taipei Poker Classic TWD 50,000 Main Event saw 47 players return to action all with one goal in mind – making the final table.

All remaining players are guaranteed a TWD 1,087,000 (~USD 34,235) payday, with the eventual champion walking away with a TWD 14,413,200 (~USD 453,960) top prize—the largest ever awarded in Taiwan—in addition to the award-winning gold lion APT Main Event trophy.

It is Dhanesh Chainani who bagged up the overnight chip lead, concluding the Day 4 action on the tenth 60-minute level played by railing the unfortunate Ting Hao Wu in tenth place to summit the chip counts. Chainani vacuumed up over 20 percent of the chips in play, and the Singaporean will be returning in the box seat with 18,300,000 in chips – valued at 92 big blinds when play resumes on Saturday, October 5.

Compatriot Abraham Ceesvin will join Chainani at the top of the leaderboard, continuing the run of form that saw him top the Day 3 chip counts to return second in the pecking order with a stack of 13,750,000 (69 big blinds).

Macau's Man Lok Chan will be returning in the #3 spot after bagging up 8,800,000 in chips (44 big blinds), closely followed by APT Taipei 2023 finalist Chih Wei Fan, who is coming in off the largest score of his professional career in the Superstar Challenge.

Jae Wook Shin rounds out the top five, hunting his first major title and third career APT title; the South Korean player is returning with 8,325,000 in chips – which is good for 42 big blinds.

In addition to tenth place finisher Ting Hao Wu (TWD 909,000), notables to make deep runs but come up short of the final table included Vietnam's Nguyen Trung Quan (12th for TWD 809,000), and Ireland's Brendan Mcmanus (15th for TWD 723,000).

Natural8 Ambassador Eric "Six Poker" Tsai saw his dreams of becoming the first player in tour history to win a second signature lion trophy vanish along with his chips, with Taiwan's Fan turning two pair to crack Tsai's flopped top pair of aces and send him packing in 17th place for a TWD 637,000 payday.

Australia's Dylan Foster also ran deep, cashing in 19th place for TWD 551,000, as did Natural8 Ambassador Yu Chung "Nevan" Chang (22nd for TWD 465,000). Others to finish in the top two percent of the field included Germany's Konstantin Held (25th for TWD 384,000), computational wizard Dominik Nitsche (26th for TWD 384,000), Singapore's Andrew Ong (34th for TWD 278,000), and Australia's Daniel Neilson (44th for TWD 230,000).

USA's Hye Keun Park Claims Maiden Title in Tour's Second Largest Zodiac Classic

The USA’s Hye Keun Park claimed his maiden live title in the Zodiac Classic – Sponsored by Natural8

The Final Day of the APT's second largest TWD 80,000 Zodiac Class - Sponsored by Natural8 saw 124 players out of an initial field of 354 entries (273 unique) return to battle it out for a place in the paying positions and a share of the TWD 24,468,480 (~USD 775,055) prize pool.

It was the USA's Hye Keun Park who claimed the accolades, with the tournament concluding in the early hours of Saturday morning. Park made his maiden live title win a memorable one, with the TWD 4,767,480 (~USD 151,010) top prize only the second ever result on his poker resume – over twenty times the size of his previous best result.

Park bested the Philippines Ferdinand Lu for the title after a short heads-up battle that saw the Filipino player also make a career best score, collecting TWD 3,029,000 (~USD 95,945) for his runner-up finish.

The USA's Christopher Trang rounded out the podium, taking TWD 2,271,000 (~USD 71,935) for his bronze finish – the second best result of his poker career to date and his first cash on Asian soil.

The USA's Wooseok Kim was another to claim a second-best career score, banking TWD 1,838,000 (~USD 58,220) for fourth place, with the UK's Shelley Mcdermott another to achieve a career high for his fifth place finish.

Natural8 Ambassador Phachara Wongwichit also managed a final table appearance, finishing in eight place with the final table paying out as follows:

Other notables to cash included the UK's Asa Smith (13th for TWD 362,000), former APT Super High Roller champion Sam Lam (16th for TWD 289,000), Ireland's Gary Thompson (25th for 203,000), the USA's Frank Cucchiara (28th for TWD 179,000), Mystery Bounty champion Isaac Phua (29th for TWD 179,000), and the USA's Vincent Rubianes (32nd for TWD 157,000) with 47 players making the money in total.

UK's Gregory Campbell Leads Tour's Richest Ever Double Stack

The UK’s Gregory Campbell is bringing the chip lead into the Final Day of APT’s richest Double Stack

The TWD 20,000 Double Stack - 7,000,000 GTD set a two new tour records, drawing an impressive 951 total entries (576 unique) to set a new Double Stack field size record for Taiwan, which in turn generated a TWD 16,433,280 (~USD 520,535) prize pool – making it the richest Double Stack in APT history – with the eventual winner walking away with a TWD 3,025,280 (~USD 95,830) top prize.

The opening Flight A saw 516 entries (401 unique) battle it out at the baize, with Singapore's Zefirelli Noordin topping the chip counts after the twenty 30-minute levels played out, bagging up 1,450,000.

Noordin is joined on the Flight A podium by Japan's Sho Katsura (1,083,000), and Belgium's Kristof Segers (1,068,000), with 72 players making the Flight A cut.

However, it is the UK's Gregory Campbell who will be returning in pole position for the Final Day after topping the second of the two starting flights, concluding the twenty-three 20-minute levels with a chip leading 1,800,000 stack.

South Korea's Seungmook Jung (1,201,000), and Hong Kong's Yu Hoi Chan (1,080,000) rounded out the top three Flight B stacks, with a further 64 survivors making it through, with the top ten Final Day stacks as follows:

All 133 returning players are guaranteed a TWD 33,000 (~USD 1,045) payday, with other notables still in the running including Taiwan's Chi Jen Chen (1,029,000), Mystery Bounty champion Isaac Phua (675,000), Bulgaria's Slaven Popov (612,000), the USA's Kyle Diep (281,000), the Netherland's Thijs Hilberts (216,000), and the UK's Constantine Paparestis (123,000).
