**HANOI, VIETNAM, June 3, 2023** – The inaugural [**APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023**](https://www.theasianpokertour.com/series/apt-summer-series-hanoi-vietnam-2023) **Main Event** has a champion, with Vietnam's **Dinh Duc Linh** claiming his first major tournament title on home soil.

Playing out at the tournament tables of the [Grand Loyal Poker Club](https://www.facebook.com/GrandLoyal/) – located on the second and third floors of the luxurious [Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel](https://www.grandvistahanoi.com/) – just nine players out of the 581-strong VND 35,000,000 **Main Event** field would return for the fourth and final day.

All nine finalists were looking to claim the lion's share of the **VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340) prize pool** and tame the coveted golden lion APT Main Event trophy, and after eight 60-minute levels and 194 hands of poker, it was Linh who was crowned champion.

Linh battled back from close to a 3-to-2 chip deficit to defeat the start-of-day chip leader and tournament favorite **Akshay Nasa** after a heads-up duel that lasted sixty-one hands and played out over two 60-minute levels.

The Vietnamese player earned a **career-best score of VND 3,401,355,000 (~USD $145,500) for his first major title victory**, denying his Indian opponent a second Main Event title in the process.

While Nasa was forced to settle for the VND 2,116,100,000 (~$90,510) on offer for second place, this also represents a career-best score for the Indian poker professional and moves him up from #21 to #16 on the India All Time Money List.

This victory quadruples Linh's live career tournament winnings, bringing his total up to over $200,000 and shooting him up to #36 from #135 on the Vietnam All Time Money List.

"I want to say thank you to my family, my friends here, and my backers," said an emotional Linh immediately after his monumental win.

"It was a good fight, my competitor was a really strong competitor. I'd also like to thank APT for bringing the festival to Hanoi. I'm spent right now, I'm overwhelmed," concluded Linh, before celebrating with the watching Vietnamese rail and heading off to collect the winner's purse.

## Vietnam's Duc Trung Vu Wins Record-breaking Double Stack for VND 721.4M (~USD $30.8K)

It proved to be a great day for Vietnamese poker, with local **Duc Trung Vu** following in the footsteps of Main Event champion Dinh Duc Linh by claiming victory in the record-breaking VND 10,000,000 Event **#36 Double Stack - VND 1,500,000,000 GTD**.

Just 60 players out of the 428-strong record field returned to action for the second and final day, all guaranteed a slice of the **VND 3,736,440,000 (~USD $159,525) prize pool** and a payout of at least VND $16,280,000 (~USD $700).

However, it was the **VND 721,430,000 (~USD $30,800) top prize** and coveted pewter lion silhouette trophy all were aiming for.

It took fifteen 30-minute levels for Vu to claim victory, and his second APT title after defeating compatriot **Le Viet Hung** heads-up.

This result represents a career fifth-best result for Vu, and brings his total live winning up to over $625,000, moving him up to #9 on the Vietnam All Time Money List.

Hung, who was hunting his maiden APT title, still made a career-best score, collecting VND 461,810,000 (~USD $19,670) for his runner-up finish.

Japan's **Yashiro Naoki** rounded out the winner's podium, taking VND 331,210,000 (~USD $14,105) for this third-place finish.

After bubbling the Main Event, **Junyeob Song** received a lucky draw ticket to Event #40 Mini Main Event.

However, the South Korean opted to pay the VND 2 million difference and upgrade this to a ticket to the Double Stack. This paid off dividends, with Song cashing in fifth place for a VND 206,300,000 (~USD $8,790) payday – not a bad result.

## Russia's Fedor Dedelov Leads Final 46 in APT High Roller; Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier Bags Top Three Stack

The third of the [**APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023**](https://www.theasianpokertour.com/series/apt-summer-series-hanoi-vietnam-2023) flagship trophy events – the two-day VND 80,000,000 **APT High Roller - 8 Max - VND 4,000,000,000 GTD** saw some of Asia-Pacifics top poker players duke it out in an attempt to stake their claim to the coverted bronze APT High Roller lion trophy.

The tournament attracted a 166-strong (104 unique) field jam packed with talent including France's top tournament professional **Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier**, bracelet winners **Abhinav Iyer** and **Alex Lindop**, South Korea's #2 ranked tournament player **Gab Yong Kim**, and a whole host of others.

After fifteen 40-minute levels just 46 were left in contention for a share of the **VND 11,593,440,000 (~USD $493,700) prize pool**, although only 23 of them will be getting paid.

The man returning in the best of postions to claim the **VND 2,695,460,000 (~USD $114,797) top prize** is **Fedor Dedelov**. The Russian player bagged up a commanding chip lead of 1,324,000 – more than double that of next closest rival **Phan Minh Duc** of Vietnam, who concluded play with a stack of 671,000.

The man in third is no stranger to deep runs in high stakes tournament fields, with **Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier** bagging a top three stack of 666,000, with the top ten stacks as follows:

## China's Jin Long Hu Leads Final 28 in Event #40 Mini Main Event - VND 1,000,000,000 GTD

The two-day VND 8,000,000 **Event #40 Mini Main Event - VND 1,000,000,000 GTD** saw 308 total entries (188 unique) fight it out over the two starting flights, all looking to lock up a seat for Day 2.

This generated a **VND 2,151,072,000 (~USD $91,612) prize pool**, with the eventual winner taking home a **VND 429,012,000 (~USD18,270) top prize**.

The opening Flight A saw 195 players enter the tournament arena. By the time the nineteen 30-minute levels played out just 28 of them were left in the running.

It was China's **Jin Long Hu** topping the counts, concluding play with a stack of 812,000 – putting him in the overall lead coming into Day 2.

Vietnam's **Phuong Ngoc Nguyen** (535,000), and **Xuan Long Le** (518,000) rounded out the top three Flight A stacks and will be returning fourth and fifth in the Day 2 counts respectively.

Of these initial entries, just 15 of them will be returning for Day 2, with Vietnam's **Tran Minh Thang** topping the Flight B counts with a stack of 566,000 – which puts him in second coming into the final day.

Playing out in the early hours of Saturday morning, the VND 15,000,000 **Event #38 Turbo - 8 Max** saw 34 players in action (29 unique), all competing for a **VND 445,230,000 (~USD $18,980) prize pool**.

It was Singapore's **Andy Li** who claimed the **VND 164,740,000 (~USD $7,050) top prize**, defeating South Korea's **SeongGwon Kim** heads-up to snag his fourth APT title.

Kim – who was gunning for his maiden APT title – had to be content with silver and the VND 113,530,000 (~USD $4,840) on offer for second place.

Vietnam's **Ta Nhat Vu** completed the winner's triumvirate, collecting VND 72,350,000 (~USD $3,080) for third.

### India's Dhaval Mudgal Wins Third APT Title in Event #39 Turbo

Just nine weeks after claiming his second APT title at APT Phu Quoc, Indian poker professional **Dhaval Mudgal** was back to his winning ways in the VND 5,000,000 **Event #39 Turbo**.

Mudgal bested a 62-strong field (54 unique) to take the lion's share of the **VND 270,630,000 (~USD $11,525) prize pool**, defeating Taiwan's **Yao Yu Ho** after a 15-minute level-long heads-up confrontation.

In addition to taking a **top prize of VND 78,900,000 (~USD $3,360)**, Mudgal now has a lovely pair of bookends with which to adorn his mantlepiece, claiming a brand new APT gold lion side event trophy to accompany his old school APT foo lion trophy.

However, all remaining players were firmly focused on winning the lion's share of the **VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340) prize pool** and locking up a seat in the final nine to stake their claim to the **VND 3,401,355,000 (~USD $145,500) top prize** and the coveted golden lion APT Main Event trophy.

It is India's **Akshay Nasa** who will be returning in the box seat after bagging up a commanding chip lead of 6,275,000 – valued at sizable 126 big blinds when play resumes for Day 4 with the action restarting at level 26 with blinds of 25,000/50,000 with a 50,000 big blind ante.

The Indian player is no stranger to APT success having been in this position before back at the APT Ho Chi Minh 2019 Main Event, which he won for a VND 1,486,560,000 ($64,334) payday. That result marked a career-best for the New Delhi native, and Nasa will be hoping to repeat chance and reach a new career high.

Nasa holds just over a quarter (27%) of the chips in play and over two million more than next closest rival **JongWook Kim**, with the South Korean player returning with a stack of 4,160,000 (83 big blinds).

The rest of the field lags some way behind, with Australia's **Emmanuel Derecho** rounding out the top three with a stack of 2,640,000 (53 big blinds).

Vietnam's **Dinh Duc Linh** (2,565,000) and Taiwan's **Chun Chieh Liu** (2,205,000) are the only two other finalists returning with stacks of over 2 million, with the final table as follows:

## Malaysia's Shung Sua Wins Second APT Title With Victory in the APT Single Day Super High Roller

The first of the APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023's coveted flagship tournament trophies has been awarded in the rescheduled VND 120,000,000 **APT Single Day Super High Roller - 8 Max**.

This prestigious event attracted a high-caliber field of 59 entries (44 unique) comprised of some of Asia-Pacific's top players.

Notables in the running included bracelet winner **Alex Lindop**, the Netherlands' **Martijn Gerrits**, South Korea's **Gab Yong Kim**, former Main Event champion **Jinwoo Kim**, Australia's **Josh Mccully**, India's **Nishant Sharma**, and **Zarvan Tumboli** and a great deal more talent.

With **VND 6,409,760,000 (~USD $275,540) in the prize pool** – the second largest of the Series – and the coveted pewter lion APT trophy on the line, competition for a place in the top eight money spots was fiercely contested.

It took twenty-three 30-minute levels to crown the first of the Series' flagship event champions, with **Shung Sua** earning a career-best score and claiming the **VND 1,922,930,000 (~USD $82,700) top prize**.

"I really wasn't supposed to play in this event," Sua, also known as Terry, told APT Media after the win. "I wanted to play in (Event #36) the Double Stack, but then Michael Soyza [APT coowner] told me to jump in because there was a Lion Trophy at stake. So I came in as a late registrant and fortunately, I won."

The Taiwanese-based Malaysian national came into heads-up with over a 2-to-1 chip lead and did not take his foot off the gas, defeating **Xiaosheng Zheng** after a two-level long heads-up battle to deny the Chinese national a second Series title, claiming his second APT title in the process.

## Japan's Sho Saika Reaches for the Stars in Zodiac Classic - Sponsored by Natural8

With only the top 20 places paying out, over half of the field would depart empty-handed.

It took thirteen 30 min levels to find a champion, with Japan's **Sho Saika** defeating Vietnam's **Lam Kim Long** heads-up to claim his second live tournament title, and maiden APT title.

Saika collected a career-best **VND 636,970,000 (~USD $27,400) top prize** for his victory, with Long having to settle for the VND 432,590,000 (~USD $18,550) for his runner-up finish.

## South Korea's KoangHo Lee Leads Record-breaking Double Stack

The day's biggest draw was the VND 10,000,000 **Event #36 Double Stack - VND 1,500,000,000 GTD** which attracted a sizable 428-strong field (254 unique) – setting a new event record.

This generated a tasty **VND 3,736,440,000 (~USD $159,525) prize pool**, with the eventual winner walking away with a **VND 721,430,000 (~USD $30,800) top prize**.

The opening Flight A saw 250 players in action, with South Korea's **KoangHo Lee** the man to bag the biggest, concluding play with a stack of 1,600,000 – putting him in pole position coming into Day 2.

Russia's **Vitaly Ivanov** was the only other Flight A player to crack the seven-figure stack mark and will be returning fourth in the overall counts with 1,205,000 in chips.

South Korea's **Hyunkyou Park** (775,000) rounded out the top three Flight A stacks, with 35 players making it through to Day 2.

Cuong returned for Day 3 as one of the top 15 stacks out of 48 and remained near the top of the counts all day, so should not be counted out.

Linh has just over USD $55K in live tournament winnings with 13 cashes on a poker resume dating back to 2017 and boasts two live titles – including an APT title, which came during February’s APT Hanoi where he won the Mystery Bounty Hunter for a career-best score of VND 473,750,000 ($20,211). A seventh-place finish or better will see Linh top his previous best and the Vietnamese player is gunning for his first major tournament title.

Sitting second in the chip counts with a stack of 4,160,000 – worth 83 big blinds – **JongWook Kim** is one of two South Korean finalists and his on the hunt for his first live title. Kim boasts ten results – including three APT cashes – on a poker resume dating back to 2022 for total live tournament winnings of just over $42K, with his best result a third-place finish In Event #24 Single Day High Roller at the recent APT Taipei 2023, which was good for TWD $817,100 (USD $26,554). A sixth-place finish or better will see Kim make a career-best score and should the cards fall his way he could well walk away with his first major title.

Returning in seat 4 as the second-shortest stack with 1,440,000 – valued at 29 big blinds – Vietnam’s **Van Sang Nguyen** is one of the more experienced players at the final table with over USD $380K in live tournament cashes on a poker resume dating back to 2014. Nguyen boasts eight live titles – including four APT titles – with his best result coming in a Hanoi-based tournament back in April, which was good for VND 2.6 billion ($110,800). Only a win will see Nguyen beat his previous career best, but with the Vietnamese player topping the Day 2 chip counts with his wild aggressive style, should he manage a double-up Nguyen will be a danger to all who stand in his way.

Chip Count: 1,475,000 – 30 big blinds

The lone Japanese player at the final table, **Takumasa Uemura** will be returning in seat 5, and sits seventh in the overall chip counts with a stack of 1,475,000 – valued at 30 big blinds. Uemura returned in the bottom third of the chip counts at the start of Day 3, but an early double-up at the expense of Australia’s Julien Warhurst brought the Japanese player back into contention, with Uemura cementing his place in the final nine at the expense of Victor Em after his all-in with pocket nines improved to a set on the flop to eliminate the Vietnamese player in 12th place. Something of a dark horse Uemura has no results on his poker resume; this is either because he doesn’t want anyone else to see how good he is, or because this is the best result of his poker career. Either way, Uemura is in with a shout of becoming the latest APT Main Event champion.

Taiwan’s **Chun Chieh Liu** is returning in seat 6 and sits fifth in the chip counts with a stack of 2,205,000 – which is good for 44 big blinds. With only one previous cash on his poker resume, which came in Event #19 Short Deck Turbo, Liu is already guaranteed a career-best score. The Taiwanese player ousted several of the field’s more notable players, busting India’s Kunal Patni and Vietnam's Ngo Van Dat on his way to the final table and could well cause an upset if the cards fall his way.

Nasr’s poker resume dates back to 2017 and boasts over $398K in live tournament winnings, and he holds five live tournament titles – including his 2019 Main Event win. A third-place finish or better will see Nasa make a career-best score, and improve his postion on India’s All Time Money List, where he currently sits at #21.

Derecho’s career best score stands at $67K for an Australian title win back in October 2022 and the Aussie needs to finish in second or better to improve on this.

The 236 respective survivors from the four opening flights were joined by a further 40 Day 2 entries – including France's top tournament player **Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier** – bringing the **total field up to 581 (345 unique)** and generating a princely **prize pool of VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340)**.

A total of 87 players will make the money, with a min-cash good for VND 55,000,000 (~USD $2,350), but it is the **VND 3,401,355,000 (~USD $145,500) top prize** and the coveted golden lion APT trophy all players have their sights set on.

The action played out across both floors of the [Grand Loyal Poker Club](https://www.facebook.com/GrandLoyal/) located at the luxurious [Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel](https://www.grandvistahanoi.com/), occupying 34 of the 43 tournament tables in operation.

Action restarted on level 11, with blinds recommencing at 800/1,600 with a 1,600 big blind ante. The action played out over ten 60-minute levels, with play concluding on level 20 as the players fought their way through to the 87 paying positions and beyond.

The money bubble was reached and breached midway through level 17, with South Korea's **Junyeob Song** running ace-queen into the ace-king of New Zealand's **Daniel Francis** to guarantee all 87 surviving players a cash reward.

It is **Daiki Shingae** who leads the final 48 Main Event survivors; the Japanese player entered at the start of Day 2 and managed to spin his 40,000 starting stack up to the giddy heights of 1,941,000.

**Van Sang Nguyen** was another Day 2 entry who also enjoyed the rub of the green. The Vietnamese player took an early lead after scoring a double knockout with pocket kings, eliminating Flight A chip leader **Gab Yong Kim** and Sweden's **Daniel Brugman**, who held pocket queens, and nines respectively. Nguyen concluded play with a stack of 1,429,000.

Vietnam's **Victor Em** rounds out the top three with a stack of 1,138,000, with compatriot **Xoa Nguyen** Thi (1,100,000) the only other player to crack the seven-figure chip stack mark, with the top ten stacks coming into Day 3 as follows:

It took twenty-five 30-minute levels for the tournament to play down to a champion.

It was China's **Yaoyu He** the man to claim the lion's share of the **VND 3,299,940,000 (~USD $141,880) prize pool**, defeating compatriot **Zikang Wang** heads-up to take the **VND 961,920,000 (~USD $41,320) top prize**, the coveted golden lion silhouette trophy, and his maiden APT title.

This saw a field of 152 entries (117 unique) in action, fighting it out at the felt over fourteen 30-minute levels in an attempt to make Day 2 and earn their slice of the **VND 2,653,920,000 (~USD $114,100) prize pool**.

A total of 47 players survived the tournament maelstrom to find a chip bag and return for the second and final day.

However, with only the top 20 places paying out, over half of them will be leaving empty-handed.
