APT Super High Roller - Day 1 - TWD 10,000,000 GTD

After 16 levels of 40 minutes, Day 1 of the APT Taipei TWD 300,000 (~$10,000) Super High Roller is finished. It was a historic day inside the Chinese Mahjong League as a total of 137 entries ensured this was the largest ~$10,000 buy-in field in APT's existence. A fantastic prize pool of TWS 37,873,650 (~$1,200,000) will make sure that the winner of this event will go home with TWD 9,089,650 (~$287,850) and the prestigious APT silver lion trophy.

Our Day 1 chip leader is two-time APT Main Event champion and WSOP bracelet winner Mike Takayama (2,470,000) from the Philippines. The Filipino is closely followed by Triton regular Wayne Heung from Hong Kong (2,395,000) and two-time WSOP bracelet winner and online crusher Jans "Graftekkel" Arends (2,350,000). Tomorrow, 27 players will come back on Day 2. This means seven more players have to bust before we reach the money. ** The Full Payout Structure**

In the first hours of play, we saw a lot of movements in the chips. One of the players who came to play was Isaac Haxton. The number eight on the all-time money list doubled up his starting stack early, but two lost battles against Quang Huy Nguyen ensured "Ike" had to re-enter. When Haxton sat down at his new table, he found momentum. Within two levels, Haxton build his starting stack up to 2 million chips. The experienced American would end the day in fourth place with 2,240,000.

Other familiar faces that made it to Day 2 are Lithuanian high stakes regular Vladas Tamasauskas (1,040,000), Belgian MTT crusher Thomas Boivin (985,000), and last years' APT Incheon Superstar Challenge champion Jun Hao Wu (785,000)

In one of the last hands of the day, Tobias Schwecht showed he had heart.

The German put his opponent Aiden Tam all in on a A♥ T♥ 8♠ A♣ J♦ board. In the pot were just over 500,000 chips, and Tam only had 320,000 behind.

Tam used most of his time banks. Schwecht put Tam in a world of pain, but Tam chose not to let go of his K♠ K♦. Schwecht couldn't beat Tam as we saw the German played K♥ 6♥ for a missed nut flushdraw.

Aiden Tam will go into Day 2 with a top-10 stack. Schwecht was left behind with less than 10 big blinds.

In the last hand of the day, Schwecht would be eliminated.

For Thomas Boivin the last level of the day was a bad one he lost over half of his stack in multiple pots. The Belgian opened from UTG to 60,000 and Kean Wei Tan from the big blind decided to defend.

The flop came A♣ K♥ 4♥. Tan checked to Boivin who fired out 80,000. The Malaysian had some tricks up his sleeve as he check-raised Boivin to 225,000. The Belgian thought about it for a while before he tossed in calling chips.

When the T♣ spiked on the turn Tam jammed and Boivin snap-called for 250,000 effective.

Boivin was playing A♥ T♠ for two pair and earned the check mark on the turn as Tam only played A♠ 7♣.

An important double up for Boivin at the end of Day 1.

We will play seven more hands before the end of the day.

UK's Jack Salter just jammed his last 225,000 into the middle after Kean Wei Tan opened from early position to 60,000. After all players went out of the way Tan made the quick call.

Tan: K♠ K♥.

Salter: A♦ T♣.

Salter in big trouble, but the A♥ T♥ 2♦ flop brought the much needed help. When the 4♥ appeared on the turn Salter sounded like he was going into labor. The tournament regular avoided disaster when the 2♠ river hit the felt.

Salter fist-bumped Arends after his successful double-up.

We just entered the last level of the day.

The action got folded to the small blind of Quang Thai Ha. The Vietnamese started the hand with 420,000 and decided to jam all in on the big blind of Wayne Heung. Heung peaked one card A♠,"I have to look at the other card now also". The moment Heung peaked the other card he called and opened K♣.

Ha was in deep trouble as he played A♦ 6♦.

The board never gave Ha hope: 9♣ 4♠ 4♥ 2♥ K♥. The Vietnamese tournament regular was busted in 31th place. Heung no moves to 1,5 million.

Natalie Teh

A short-stacked Natalie Teh was just sent to the rail by Jans Arends. Teh just doubled her last 2 big blinds against Arends by hitting a runner-runner, but in the next hand Arends got his revenge.

The action started with a UTG raise by Thomas Boivin to 50,000. Teh moved all in for 85,000 and saw Arends raise to 225,000. The action was folded back to Boivin who made the call.

Arends fired out 60,000 on A♣ K♠ 3♦, and a quick fold by Boivin followed. Showdown:

Teh: A♦ T♣.

Arends: K♥ K♣.

The Dutch crusher flopped a set of kings. Teh needed a miracle to survive, but a brick on the turn meant Natalie Teh was eliminated in 34th place.

We are down to the last two levels of the day. For the last 20 minutes nothing much has been happening, but rest assured the last 2 levels of the day will offer firework!
