APT Taipei Sets All-time Record for the Asian Poker Tour

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, May 3, 2023 – The APT Taipei 2023 continues to raise the bar, with a further four records being set as the Series action ramps up and the TWD $50,000 (~USD $1,700) Main Event approaches the business end.

The final two starting Flights C & D are now in the books, and the APT Taipei 2023 Main Event is the officially the largest in APT history by every metric, shattering all previous records.

All the record setting is not exclusive to the Main Event, with the TWD $5,000 Event #27 NLH - Super Hold'em (3 Hole Cards) - Turbo, the TWD $5,000 Event #30 Women's Event, and the TWD $5,000 Event #31 Pot Limit Omaha High - Turbo - 8 Max all drawing record fields – you can read more on the first two of these tournaments below.

MAIN EVENT

Playing out at the tournament tables of the brand new CTP Asia Poker Arena – Asia's largest permanent poker room – Flight C of the Main Event drew a total of 251 entries (208 unique), with Flight D attracting a further 183 entries (152 unique).

Combined with the 437 Flight A entries and the 317 Flight B entries – plus an additional 194 Natural8 online qualifiers – the field currently stands at 1,382 entries.

The prize pool currently stands at TWD $60,324,300 (~USD $1,966,150) smashing the record for largest APT prize pool – beating the previous high of USD $1.5M which was set during the APT Macau 2008 – with registration remaining open until the start of Day 2, which kicks off at 12pm local time on Thursday, May 4.

FLIGHT C

It was France's Jerome Finck who topped the Flight C chip counts after the ten 30-minute levels played out, bagging up a stack of 255,600.

Finck was the only Flight C player to crack the 200K chip barrier and will return fifth in the overall pecking order coming into Day 2.

South Korean's Hogeun Kim (198,800), and Dongkyu Kim (198,200) rounded out the top three Flight C stacks.

A total of 131 players locked up a Day 2 spot, with other notables to make it through including reigning APT Phu Quoc Main Event champion Jacque Ramsden (123,800), Natural8 Ambassador Phachara Wongwichit (120,700), Canada's Ian Modder (101,300), and APT Superstar Challenge runner-up Hon Cheong Lee (86,900).

FLIGHT D

It was Graeme Siow the man to bag biggest on Flight D, and the Singaporean will be returning ninth in the Day 2 counts after bagging up a stack of 235,200.

Hong Kong's Kai Hei Wong (213,200), and South Korea's Jeong Yim (194,700) rounded out the top three Flight D stacks.

A further 104 players were successful in their quest to make Day 2, with notable players to find a chip bag after the ten 30-minute levels played out including Hong Kong's William Lam (102,200), Natural8 Ambassador Danny Tang (95,000), Japan's Hiroshi Matsumoto (96,300), poker vlogger Frank Cucchiara (71,500), and South Korea's Soo Jo "SJ" Kim (62,100).

DAY 2

The 131 Flight C survivors and the 104 Flight D survivors will will join the 187 Flight A Survivors and 144 Flight B Survivors for Day 2.

While there were 566 players who made it through over the four starting flights, four players qualified twice: Jaesung Park (South Korea), Ka Ho Sun (Hong Kong), Thanh Phat Nguyen (Australia), Ming Hang Cho (Hong Kong).

This means they take their best stack forward while their smallest stack is taken out of play, so there will only be 562 returning Day 2 survivors, with joint Flight A chip leaders Namhyung Kim and Chun-Yu Wu returning in pole position, with the top ten Day 2 stacks as follows:

South Korea's Sung Joo Hyun Wins Event #29 Single Day High Roller - 8 Max for TWD $3.7M (~USD $121K)

The fourth of APT Taipei's scheduled single-day high roller tournaments – the TWD $150,000 Event #29 Single Day High Roller - 8 Max – drew another decently-sized field, with 107 players (82 unique) anteing up and battling it out at the baize.

With a TWD $14,530,600 (~USD $473,320) prize pool up for grabs and only the top 15 places paying out, competition for a place in the hallowed money spots was fiercely contested.

It was South Korea's Sung Joo Hyun who proved himself top dog, defeating Main Event frontrunner and fellow countryman Namhyung Kim heads-up to claim the TWD $3,712,600 (~USD $120,940) top prize.

It took twenty-eight 30-minute levels for Hyun to win his maiden APT title and the stylish golden lion silhouette trophy, with this win pushing him up two places to the #3 spot on the South Korea All Time Money List, bringing his total live career winnings up to over USD $1.96 million.

Kim, who was on the hunt for his second APT title, was forced to settle for second and a pay day of TWD $2,557,400 (~USD $83,300).

The UK's Rehman Kassam made a first final table appearance and earned a second cash of the Series, padding out his USD $1.05 million in career live tournament winnings to the tune of TWD $1,678,300 (~USD $54,630) after taking third place.

Australia's John Perry made his second final table of the Series, taking TWD $1,097,100 (~USD $35,700) for fifth.

Hong Kong's Jeffrey Lo earning TWD $857,300 (~USD $27,900) for sixth, with the final table paying out as follows:

Taiwan's Meng Ling Lin Wins Record-breaking Women's Event

As mentioned above, all the record-setting was not exclusive to the Main Event, with the TWD $5,000 Event #30 Women's Event drawing a record-breaking 143-strong (93 unique) field.

This crushed the previous high of 46, set during the APT Manila 2011 and generated a TWD $624,195 (~USD $20,330) prize pool.

It was Taiwan's own Meng Ling Lin who triumphed over the largest Women's Event in APT history after twenty-eight 25-minute levels.

Lin bested compatriot Jia-Chi Li heads-up to take the TWD $149,595 (~USD $4,870) top prize – a career second best score – and her maiden APT title.

Li earned TWD $101,700 (~USD $3,300) for her runner-up finish, with Japan' Ayaka Honke rounding out the winner's podium and taking TWD $67,100 (~USD $2,185) for third.

A total of 20 players made the money, with the final table paying out as follows:

Event #27 NLH - Super Hold'em (3 Hole Cards) - Turbo Draws Record Field; Singapore's Nicholas Heng Takes TWD $174K (~USD $25.7K) Top Prize

The TWD $5,000 Event #27 NLH - Super Hold'em (3 Hole Cards) - Turbo played out in the early hours of Tuesday morning, attracting a record-setting 181-strong field (137 unique), and generating a TWD $790,065 (~USD $25,760) prize pool.

It took Singapore's Nicholas Heng twenty-eight 15-minute levels to take the TWD $174,865 (~USD $5,700) top prize.

Heng defeated Hong Kong's Kwong Ki Cheng to claim his maiden APT title, with Cheng collecting TWD $118,100 (~USD $3,060) for his runner-up finish.

France's Valentin Girard rounded out the winner's triumvirate, taking TWD $81,300 (~USD $2,650) for third.

A total of 27 players made the money in what proved to be the largest Super Hold'em tournament in APT history, with the final table paying out as follows: ** SUPER HOLD'EM TURBO FINAL TABLE RESULTS**

China's Lap Wai Hung Takes Down Event #28 Turbo - 8 Max for TWD $583,095 (~USD $19K)

The TWD $15,000 Event #28 Turbo - 8 Max saw 201 players in action (168 unique), generating a TWD $2,632,095 (~USD $85,800) prize pool.

It took thirty-two 15-minute levels for China's Lap Wai Hung to come out on top, triumphing over APT regular Vincent Li to claim his maiden APT title and deny the Hong Kong player his sixth.

Hung earned TWD $583,095 (~USD $19,000) for his victory, with Li receiving TWD $393,500 (~USD $12,800) for his runner-up finish.

South Korea's Beabsu Kim took TWD $270,800 (~USD $8,800) for third, with a total of 27 players making the money and the final table paying out as follows:
