HANOI, VIETNAM, June 2, 2023 – The final table is set in the VND 35,000,000 APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 Main Event!

Playing out at the tournament tables of the Grand Loyal Poker Club – located on the second and third floors of the luxurious Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel – just 48 of the 581-strong field returned for Day 3, all guaranteed a payout of at least VND 69,200,000 (~USD $2,960).

However, all remaining players were firmly focused on winning the lion's share of the VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340) prize pool and locking up a seat in the final nine to stake their claim to the VND 3,401,355,000 (~USD $145,500) top prize and the coveted golden lion APT Main Event trophy.

It is India's Akshay Nasa who will be returning in the box seat after bagging up a commanding chip lead of 6,275,000 – valued at sizable 126 big blinds when play resumes for Day 4 with the action restarting at level 26 with blinds of 25,000/50,000 with a 50,000 big blind ante.

The Indian player is no stranger to APT success having been in this position before back at the APT Ho Chi Minh 2019 Main Event, which he won for a VND 1,486,560,000 ($64,334) payday. That result marked a career-best for the New Delhi native, and Nasa will be hoping to repeat chance and reach a new career high.

Nasa holds just over a quarter (27%) of the chips in play and over two million more than next closest rival JongWook Kim, with the South Korean player returning with a stack of 4,160,000 (83 big blinds).

The rest of the field lags some way behind, with Australia's Emmanuel Derecho rounding out the top three with a stack of 2,640,000 (53 big blinds).

Vietnam's Dinh Duc Linh (2,565,000) and Taiwan's Chun Chieh Liu (2,205,000) are the only two other finalists returning with stacks of over 2 million, with the final table as follows:

Malaysia's Shung Sua Wins Second APT Title With Victory in the APT Single Day Super High Roller

The first of the APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023's coveted flagship tournament trophies has been awarded in the rescheduled VND 120,000,000 APT Single Day Super High Roller - 8 Max.

This prestigious event attracted a high-caliber field of 59 entries (44 unique) comprised of some of Asia-Pacific's top players.

Notables in the running included bracelet winner Alex Lindop, the Netherlands' Martijn Gerrits, South Korea's Gab Yong Kim, former Main Event champion Jinwoo Kim, Australia's Josh Mccully, India's Nishant Sharma, and Zarvan Tumboli and a great deal more talent.

With VND 6,409,760,000 (~USD $275,540) in the prize pool – the second largest of the Series – and the coveted pewter lion APT trophy on the line, competition for a place in the top eight money spots was fiercely contested.

It took twenty-three 30-minute levels to crown the first of the Series' flagship event champions, with Shung Sua earning a career-best score and claiming the VND 1,922,930,000 (~USD $82,700) top prize.

"I really wasn't supposed to play in this event," Sua, also known as Terry, told APT Media after the win. "I wanted to play in (Event #36) the Double Stack, but then Michael Soyza [APT coowner] told me to jump in because there was a Lion Trophy at stake. So I came in as a late registrant and fortunately, I won."

The Taiwanese-based Malaysian national came into heads-up with over a 2-to-1 chip lead and did not take his foot off the gas, defeating Xiaosheng Zheng after a two-level long heads-up battle to deny the Chinese national a second Series title, claiming his second APT title in the process.

The second and final day of the VND 20,000,000 Event #32 Zodiac Classic - Sponsored by Natural8 saw 47 survivors out of a field of 152 return to action at 12:15pm local time, all looking to win their slice of the VND 2,653,920,000 (~USD $114,100) prize pool.

With only the top 20 places paying out, over half of the field would depart empty-handed.

It took thirteen 30 min levels to find a champion, with Japan's Sho Saika defeating Vietnam's Lam Kim Long heads-up to claim his second live tournament title, and maiden APT title.

Saika collected a career-best VND 636,970,000 (~USD $27,400) top prize for his victory, with Long having to settle for the VND 432,590,000 (~USD $18,550) for his runner-up finish.

Russia's Anatolii Gorbushin rounded out the winner's podium, taking VND 285,300,000 (~USD $12,250) for third, with the final table paying out as follows:

Other notables to cash but come up short of the final table included South Korea's Beabsu Kim (14th for VND 42,460,000), Hong Kong's Alan Pun (16th for VND 39,010,000), and Singapore's Aaron Lam (18th for VND 35,560,000).

South Korea's KoangHo Lee Leads Record-breaking Double Stack

The day's biggest draw was the VND 10,000,000 Event #36 Double Stack - VND 1,500,000,000 GTD which attracted a sizable 428-strong field (254 unique) – setting a new event record.

This generated a tasty VND 3,736,440,000 (~USD $159,525) prize pool, with the eventual winner walking away with a VND 721,430,000 (~USD $30,800) top prize.

The opening Flight A saw 250 players in action, with South Korea's KoangHo Lee the man to bag the biggest, concluding play with a stack of 1,600,000 – putting him in pole position coming into Day 2.

Russia's Vitaly Ivanov was the only other Flight A player to crack the seven-figure stack mark and will be returning fourth in the overall counts with 1,205,000 in chips.

South Korea's Hyunkyou Park (775,000) rounded out the top three Flight A stacks, with 35 players making it through to Day 2.

Flight B saw a further 178 players enter the tournament arena, with 25 of them making it through to Day 2.

It was Vietnam's Thien Bui Duc the man to top the final flight's counts, bagging up a stack of 1,485,000 – which puts him second in the overall standings.

China's Fung Kong (1,255,000), and Japan's Yashiro Naoki (1,085,000) both bagged seven-figure stacks to round out the top three.

Hong Kong's Ka Chun Fu Takes Down Event #34 Turbo - 8 Max

Playing out in the early hours of Friday morning, the VND 15,000,000 Event #34 Turbo - 8 Max drew a field of 19 entries (17 unique), who competed for a VND 248,805,000 (~USD $10,700) prize pool.

It took seventeen fast-paced 15-minute levels to crown a champion; it was Hong Kong's Ka Chun Fu who claimed the honors, taking the trophy and VND 104,495,000 (~USD $4,500) top prize after defeating Japan's Daiki Kohagi heads-up to snag his maiden APT title.

Kohagi collected VND 69,670,000 (~USD $3,000) for his runner-up finish, with Vietnam's Xuan Thu Nguyen, and Huyen Nguyen Kinh taking third and fourth place respectively with the tournament paying out as follows:

The second of the late-night turbo side events to play out in the early hours of Friday morning was the VND 5,000,000 Event #35: NLH - Crazy Pineapple - Turbo.

This saw a field of 32 entries (28 unique) compete for a VND 139,680,000 (~USD $6,010) prize pool.

It was South Korea's Changwook Choi who showcased his fruit-picking skills, besting China's Zhijian Xiong heads-up to claim the VND 51,680,000 (~USD $2,225) top prize and his maiden APT title.

Xiong received VND 35,620,000 (~USD $1,530) for his runner-up finish, with Poland's Lukasz Jankowski rounding out the winner's podium and taking a payout of VND 22,700,000 (~USD $975) for third place.
