Win Meng Tan wins APT Super High Roller
Malaysia’s Win Meng Tan captured a hard-fought victory at the VND 120,000,000 APT Super High Roller Event, earning the esteemed APT pewter lion trophy and the top prize of VND 1,728,540,000 ($68,050).
Tan faced off against Vietnam’s Phuong Nguyen Tan in a thrilling heads-up match, which concluded in just over 90-minutes, with Phuong securing the runner-up prize of VND 1,250,310,000 ($49,225).
This win marks Win Meng Tan’s first Lion trophy and the biggest cash prize of his career. He outlasted a competitive field of 55 entries (37 unique) to claim the largest share of a sizable VND 5,761,800,000 (~$226,840) prize pool.
"I think I've been to more than three APTs, and obviously winning an APT tournament is very grand. Now I have an actual good trophy! It’s like a collection," Tan stated in his post-match interview immediately following his title win.

Final Table Action
The day began with 13 players returning to compete, but only 8 would make it into the money, with a minimum cash prize of VND 230,470,000 (~$9,075). Former APT High Roller champion, Thailand's Thanisorn Saelor, narrowly missed adding another APT title and a second signature lion trophy to his resume, exiting just short of the final table.
Ultimately, it was Ankit Ahuja—ranked fourth on India’s All-Time Money List—who departed on the final table bubble when he was eliminated by runner-up Tan’s pocket jacks.
Despite reaching the final table, Sweden’s Mikael Andersson, who entered with the shortest stack, came painfully close to finishing in the money. His ace-jack offsuit was outdone by Denmark’s Martin Stausholm’s ace-ten, which turned into two pair, eliminating Andersson just shy of a payout.
Nevan Chang
The next elimination took a while as fierce action saw chips changing hands and the chip lead shifting among players. Eventually, Taiwan’s Nevan Chang was the one to go. Despite doubling his stack early at the final table, Chang was defeated by Singapore’s The Naing. In this hand, Chang’s ace-queen offsuit failed to connect with the board, while The Naing’s pocket eights improved to a set on the river, sealing Chang's exit with an 8th-place goodie bag of VND 230,470,000 (~$9,075)..
Japan’s Motoyoshi Okamura was the next to exit, following right after Chang. Holding pocket kings, Okamura moved all-in, hoping for a double-up against Martin Stausholm’s ace-jack offsuit. Okamura initially caught a set on the flop, but in a painful twist, Stausholm rivered a straight to win the hand. Despite the tough elimination, Okamura still took home a solid VND 293,850,000 (~$11,570) for his 7th-place finish.
Australia’s Julian Warhurst carefully selected his spots, aiming for another APT Super High Roller title. In a battle of the blinds, Warhurst moved all-in with ace-six offsuit but couldn’t overcome Win Meng Tan’s pocket jacks, failing to hit a high enough pair to take the lead. The Australian walked away with VND 368,760,000 (~$14,520) for his 6th-place finish.
Manuel Blaschke
Austria’s Manuel Blaschke briefly held the chip lead but was crippled by Phuong Nguyen Tan in a huge pot. Shortly after, Blaschke was eliminated in a hand against Stausholm, where he went all-in with pocket fours. The Danish player, holding king-queen offsuit, turned a straight, sending Blaschke to the rail in 5th place with a cashout prize of VND 472,470,000 (~$18,600).
The Naing, who started the final table as the chip leader, finished in 4th place after clashing with Phuong Nguyen Tan. Holding king-nine offsuit, Vietnam's Tan hit a king on the flop, while The Naing, with pocket queens, couldn't improve over the next two streets, sealing his elimination. The Naing took home a significant cash prize of VND 610,750,000 (~$24,045).
The Naing was quickly followed by Stausholm, who shoved all-in with ace-deuce. He faced off against Phuong Nguyen Tan, holding nine-five offsuit. Tan hit a pair on the river, eliminating Stausholm and sending him to the payout counter to claim VND 610,750,000 (~$24,045) for 3rd place.
Phuong Nguyen Tan
Then it was heads-up between the two Tans in what turned out to be a thrilling match, with the lively Phuong Nguyen Tan being the crowd favorite. Although the chip stacks were fairly even, a pivotal hand saw Phuong Nguyen Tan crippled when Win Meng Tan's ace-jack rivered a pair against the Vietnamese player's ten-eight offsuit, which had paired on the flop.
Phuong Nguyen Tan managed to double up twice, closing the gap between their chip stacks. However, in the end, he went all-in with jack-four suited after hitting a pair on the flop, unaware that Win Meng Tan had hit a straight with nine-eight offsuit. That hand sent Phuong Nguyen Tan to the rails in second place.
And with that, there could only be one — Win Meng Tan. Congratulations to all the players!
