Sua Shung Er, a Malaysian-born Taiwanese national emerged victorious in the APT Single Day Super High Roller, besting a tough field of 59 entries who bought in for VND 120,000,000 (~USD 5,160) for his second APT title and his biggest career cash here at the Grand Loyal Poker Club in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The 29-year-old from Penang now residing in Tainan won a Single Day High Roller event in APT Incheon last year and from there he built a bankroll that has led to an international campaign that has been fruitful.

"I really wasn't supposed to play in this event," Sua, also known as Terry, told APT Media after the win. "I wanted to play in (Event #36) the Double Stack, but then Michael Soyza told me to jump in because there was a Lion Trophy at stake. So I came in as a late registrant and fortunately, I won."

Apart from the trophy, Sua also pocketed the top purse of VND 1,922,930,000 (~USD 872,700) which eclipses his biggest haul of USD 32,165 at an event here in Hanoi last month. The victory will now put him at about the USD 200,000 mark after only three years of being a grinder.

"I moved to Taiwan when I was 17," Sua disclosed. "I learned the game there and I've grown in it ever since."

Sua was the overall chip-leader heading into this event's Final Table; a feat he also accomplished in the recently concluded APT Kickoff where he only managed to finish ninth.

"This time, I stayed aggressive," he said. "There are so many solid players in this field that I had to stay aggressive to get ahead."

The turning point happened in the early goings when he managed to outdraw Australian veteran John Perry who had Pocket Kings versus his Pocket Queens. The Queen on the turn had Sua winning a pot worth more than 2,000,000 and he never looked back.

He did have to go through a riveting heads-up duel against China's Zheng Xiaosheng – who was fresh of a victory in Event #27: Single Day High Roller - 8 Max two days prior – but one slip-up by his opponent tilted the odds in his favor and it was just a matter of time before he took the tournament down.

Xiaosheng Zheng has been eliminated in 2nd place for VND 1,390,920,000 (~$59,800).

Shung Er Sua shoved from the small blind and Xiaosheng Zheng called off his remaining chips.

Sua had a chance to win the Super High Roller Single Day if he could manage to hold here. Zheng was extremely short-stacked and had only three big blinds at the start of the hand.

The dealer was ready to put out a flop, and the 5♥ 9♠ A♦ increased Sua's chances with Zheng needing to pair up to stay alive.

"Picture, picture!" shouted Sua and his entourage.

Well, the dealer obliged and stuck out a J♦ to give Sua a pair of jacks and leave Zheng drawing dead. The 3♠ completed the board as Sua celebrated, but not before sharing a handshake with Zheng.

Sua checked, then Zheng bet 300,000. Sua quickly called.

The turn was the 3♥ and Sua checked again. Zheng checked behind.

The river was the 7♠ and Sua led out for 800,000. Zheng tanked but then folded.

Sua senses he has his opponent against the ropes and is winding up for the KO punch.

Shung Er Sua opened to 350,000 and Xiaosheng Zheng made the call.

On a flop of 9♦ A♣ 3♥ Zheng check-called a 225,000 chip bet from Sua.

The turn brought a Q♣ as Zheng checked it over to Sua, who sized up a bet of 850,000. Zheng didn't take too long before making the call and the two saw a river card.

Zheng checked a third time on the T♠ river as Sua prepared to fire a third and final bullet. 1,400,000 was the bet which was a little under half of Zheng's remaining stack. After using a time-extension chip, Zheng dropped in a call.

Sua immediately tabled Q♠ 3♠ for two pair as Zheng mucked his hand which left the Malaysian stacking the chips.

Surely he can taste the victory now.

After Sua min-raised from his Button as Zheng called.

The flop was K♥ 2♥ 2♠ as Zheng checked. Sua bet 300,000 and Zheng made the quick call.

The turn was the 9♥ and Zheng checked again. This time Sua checked behind.

The river was the K♣. Zheng fired 800,000. Sua tanked a bit but them made a one-chip call.

Zheng flipped over K♠ 9♠ for a full house and Sua paid the river bet before mucking his cards.

Zheng actually had the goods this time.

Both players agreed to cut the break short so we are back in action.

Xiaosheng Zheng opened to 250,000 and Shung Er Sua called. On a flop of 4♦ A♠ A♣ Zheng fired a bet and Sua folded.

In the next hand Shung Er Sua opened to 250,000 and Xiaosheng Zheng defended. On a flop of 3♠ 4♠ T♠ Sua fired 200,000 and Zheng laid his hand down.

Xiaosheng Zheng opened to 250,000 and Shung Er Sua defended. On the 9♥ 5♣ 6♠ flop both players checked. On the 2♦ turn Sua check-called a 200,000 chip bet from Zheng. Both players checked the 4♦ river and Zheng took the pot with Q♠ 5♥.

Xiaosheng Zheng opened to 250,000 as Shung Er Sua made it 750,000. Zheng made the call as they both saw a flop.

On the K♦ Q♣ 4♥ flop, Sua led for 450,000 and took down the pot.

Let's not count out Xiaosheng Zheng just yet, though.

The Chinese player has two APT titles to his name with the latest coming just a few days ago in this very building when he took down a Single Day High Roller event for VND 1,284,920,000.
