HANOI, VIETNAM, June 3, 2023 – The sun has set on the inaugural APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 with the Series pulling in some solid numbers and showcasing some scintillating poker action.

Three new APT records were set during the Series, with the VND 7M Sunday Super Stack - VND 1,000,000,000 GTD crushing the guarantee and drawing its largest-ever field, the VND 150M Superstar Challenge awarding its richest purse of VND 5,839,400,000 (~$248,700), and the VND 10M Double Stack attracting its largest-ever field.

Playing out at the tournament tables of the Grand Loyal Poker Club – located on the second and third floors of the luxurious Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel – the ten-day, 43-title-event Series saw 869 unique players from 31 countries compete for a sizable VND 79,072,072,000 (~$3,368,980) in prize money.

Just over a fifth (22%) of the series prize money was awarded in the 581-strong Main Event, which saw 345 unique players from 30 different countries compete for a VND 17,752,455,000 (~$759,340) prize pool.

It was Vietnam's Dinh Duc Linh claiming the coveted 24K golden lion APT Main Event trophy, earning a career-best score of VND 3,401,355,000 (~$145,500) for his first major title victory.

The APT High Roller boasted the second largest prize pool, with the VND 11,593,440,000 (~$493,700) purse accounting for a further 15% of the total prize money awarded.

It was Vietnam's Ngoc Dai 'Mr Big' Nguyen who claimed the coveted bronze APT High Roller lion trophy – more on that below – with the pewter lion APT Single Day Super High Roller trophy heading back to Taiwan with Taipei-based Malaysian player Shung Sua.

The host nation claimed two of the three flagship titles on offer and proved to be tournament top dogs of the Series, claiming 10 APT titles in total, with Singapore (5 titles), and South Korea (5 titles) rounding out the top three.

Vietnam Claims Two Out of Three Flagship Trophies; Ngoc Dai 'Mr Big' Nguyen Wins APT High Roller for VND 2.69M (~$114.8K)

Just 46 players out of the 166-strong field returned to action for the second and final day of the VND 80,000,000 APT High Roller - 8 Max - VND 4,000,000,000 GTD, all guaranteed a slice of the VND 11,593,440,000 (~USD $493,700) prize pool and a payout of at least VND 134,480,000 (~$5,730).

However, it was the VND 2,695,460,000 (~USD $114,800) top prize and bronze lion APT High Roller trophy all were lusting after.

It was local high-stakes hero Ngoc Dai Nguyen who took the lion's share of the sizable prize purse and tamed the coveted bronze lion trophy, defeating Australia's Dylan Foster after a short five-hand heads-up battle to claim his third APT Title – and his second APT High Roller title.

Foster – making his third final table appearance of the Series – got it in good with ace-deuce against Ngoc's king-ten, with both players pairing the flop and the Aussie maintaining his lead right up until the river, with running hearts giving the Vietnamese player the flush, and the title.

This victory is the second-best result of Nguyen's poker career, bringing his total live winnings up to over $417,000 and moving him up to #16 from #35 on the Vietnam All-Time Money List.

The second-place prize of VND 1,825,970,000 (~$77,760) was also a second-best career score for the Australian, bringing his total live tournament winnings up to over $460,000.

Ashish Munot held the chip lead for much of the final table and was a runner-up here in the APT Main Event last year. However, despite coming within touching distance of the trophy again, the Indian could not convert his chip lead into a win and had to settle for the VND 1,217,310,000 (~$51,850) on offer for third.

France's top tournament player Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier made his first APT final table appearance, following up on his 69th-place cash in the Main Event with an eighth-place finish, which was good for VND 337,370,000 (~$14,370), with the final table paying out as follows:

Hong Kong's Vincent Li Takes his Chances in Last Chance High Roller - 8 Max for VND 659.99M (~$28K)

Just like the name suggests, the VND 50,000,000 Event #45 Last Chance High Roller - 8 Max was the last chance for the APT high roller contingent to bag a trophy.

It was Hong Kong's Vincent Li the man to prove his high stakes tournament poker credentials, besting a 48-strong (38 unique) field to take the lion's share of the VND 2,095,200,000 (~$89,230) prize pool and claim the coveted golden lion silhouette Single Day High Roller trophy.

Li defeated South Korea's Seonggwon Kim heads-up to claim an impressive sixth APT title – and his fifth APT High Roller title – and take the VND 659,990,000 (~$28,100) top prize.

Kim, who was gunning for his maiden APT title, was forced to settle for second and VND 476,660,000 (~$20,300).

Vietnam's Quang Huy Nguyen rounded out the winner's podium, collecting VND 303,800,000 (~$12,940) for third.

Vietnam's Tran Minh Thang Takes the Max in Mini Main Event - VND 1,000,000,000 GTD

Just 43 players out of a field of 308 returned for the second and final day of the VND 8,000,000 Event #40 Mini Main Event - VND 1,000,000,000 GTD, all looking to gain maximum value from the VND 2,151,072,000 (~USD $91,612) prize pool.

All 43 returning players were already guaranteed a payout of VND 12,550,000 (~$535), but it was the golden lion silhouette trophy and the VND 429,012,000 (~USD18,270) top prize all had their sights set on.

Action recommenced on level 19 with blinds of 10,000/10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante, and it took twelve 30-minute levels to crown a champion.

It was Vietnam's Tran Minh Thang the man to take the maximum, defeating China's Luo Zhang heads-up to claim his maiden APT title.

Zhang received VND 272,520,000 (~$11,600) for his runner-up finish.

Vietnam's The Vinh Nguyen completed the winner's triumvirate, taking VND 204,280,000 (~$8,700) for third-place, with the final table paying out as follows:

Vietnam's Truong Giang Nguyen Claims Maiden APT Title With 3-Way Chop in Micro Main Event

Boasting the same structure as the Main Event, only for five-times less the price, the VND 7,000,000 Event #44 Micro Main Event kicked off at 12pm local time and attracted a field of 102 entries (77 unique).

With a VND 623,322,000 (~$26,550) prize pool, one of the final trophies of the Series on the line, and only the top 15 postions paid, places in the hallowed money spots were fiercly contested.

It took twenty-eight 20-minute levels for the tournament to play out, with Vietnam's Truong Giang Nguyen claiming his maiden APT title, the trophy, and a top prize of VND 130,962,000 (~$5,600) after cutting a deal with the tournament's other two remaining players.

The trio opted for an ICM chip chop to conclude the tournament, with Vietnam's Huu Manh Nguyen locking up second place and a payout of VND 110,000,000 (~$4,720), and China's Tianyou Liu collecting a payout of VND 100,000,000 (~$4,280) for third place.

With the APT Incheon 2023 Series approaching at the end of August, reigning APT Incheon Main Event champion Farhad Aghayev is putting the work in to add to his tournament tally.

The Azerbaijani has added a second APT title to his poker resume, beating a 42-strong field comprised of 24 unique players in the VND 5,000,000 Event #46 Pot Limit Omaha High to take the largest portion of the VND 183,330,000 (~$7,800) prize pool.

Aghayev defeated Vietnam's Vinh Tran Nam heads-up to claim his first New Era APT golden lion side event trophy and a top prize of VND 62,332,100 (~$2,650).

Tran received VND 43,082,600 (~$1,830) for his runner-up finish, with Malaysia's Ben Loo rounding out the winner's podium and taking VND 27,499,500 (~$1,170) for third place.

Two more APT Summer Series side event champions were crowned in the early hours of Sunday morning, both breaking their APT title virginity.

The first of these newly minted champions was Vietnam's Van An Chu, who followed up his deep run at the start of the Series in the Mystery Bounty Hunter – where he pulled largest bounty and collected VND 305M in scalps – to end his Series on a high with his maiden APT title win in the VND 15,000,000 Event #42 Turbo - 8 Max.

Chu bested an eight-strong field, defeating Switzerland's Yannick Jobin heads-up to take the biggest cut of the VND 104,760,000 (~$4,460) prize pool and claim the trophy, title and VND 67,050,000 (~$2,855) top prize.

Jobin was the only other player to cash, collecting VND 37,710,000 (~$1,600) for his runner-up finish.

Chang took silver and VND 52,630,000 (~$2,240) for his runner-up finish, with the UK's Daniel Martin rounding out the winner's podium and taking bronze and the VND 33,550,000 (~$1,430) third-place prize.

The final two champions of the Series were crowned in the closing two Hyper Turbo Events.

It was Vietnam's Ta Nhat Vu who emerged victorious in the VND 15,000,000 Event #47 Hyper Turbo - 8 Max, besting an 18-strong field (16 unique) to take the largest slice of the VND 235,710,000 (~$10,040) prize pool.

Vu defeated seasoned Indian poker professional Zarvan Tumboli to claim his maiden APT title and the VND 98,990,000 (~$4,215) top prize, denying Tumboli his fourth APT title in the process.

Tumboli collected VND 66,000,000 (~$2,800) for his runner-up finish to conclude his Series on a positive note.

France's Jules Blondel earned his second cash of the Series, receiving VND 42,430,000 (~$1,800) for third-place, with Hong Kong's Po Fai Lau following up his win in Event #30 Omaholic with a fourth place cash for VND 28,290,000 (~$1,200).

It was China's Yun Zhang the man to to close out the last tournament of the Series.

Zhang followed up his runner-up finish in Event #29 Turbo - 8 Max, and cashes in the Mystery Bounty, Event #31 Single Day High Roller, and his 13th place finish in the APT High Roller, by finally claiming his maiden APT title – something he was quite pleased about judging by his victory celebrations!

The Chinese player triumphed over the UK's Nguyen Khoa Le heads-up, his ace-jack winning a race against the Brits pocket nines to snag the trophy, title, and VND 59,765,000 (~$2,550) top prize.

Le collected VND 41,180,000 (~$1,750) for his runner-up finish, with compatriot Tan Luan Le rounding out the winner's podium and taking VND 26,240,000 (~$1,120) for third.
